For the first fault I think its the throttle body or a vacuum leak..

2nd one this is what ross tech says...
Probably a vacuum leak I think could be related...

17819/P1411/005137 - Secondary Air Injection System; Bank 2: Insufficient Flow

Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) active
Possible Causes
Fuse for Secondary Air Injection Pump blown
Vacuum Hose(s) leaky or collapsed
Piping between Secondary Air Injection Pump and Combi (Secondary Air Injection) Valve leaking
Secondary Air Injection Solenoid(s) faulty
Combi Valve(s) faulty
Possible Solutions
Check Fuse for Secondary Air Injection Pump
Check Vacuum Hose(s)
Check Piping between Secondary Air Injection Pump and Combi (Secondary Air Injection) Valve
Check Secondary Air Injection Solenoid(s)
Check Combi Valve(s)

The previous owner of my car used 95 Ron 80% of the time with no fault codes....

using 95 petrol will not throw up codes. Esp ones relating to insufficient air flow in the secondary air system!

I'd say with the above - an air leak somewhere after the maf sensor is causing one bank to run slightly rich and also stopping enough air in the secondary system.

Thanks,
didn't think it was down to 95ron, but certainly losing faith in Lakeland Audi by the minute, will have a shout when its back in on Friday for fitting parts ordered. didn't have to pay as i have my own rosstech lead. Will leave a 'polite' printout in the car for the mechanics as i can never seem to get past the suits in reception when I drop the car in

If it's due to using 95 Ron then ask them why inside the fuel flap it says use minimum of 95 !

In South Africa, the Max Ron we get is 95, and have used it on the Rs4 for almost 3 years not no fault codes at all...
Racing fuel here is 98... bit of a joke really

Worth checking to make sure you're comparing like with like.
For example the states use the average of ron and mon which is why their fueld appear to be lower octane but are generally similar.

Octane also increases with altitude - one reason why Shell Vpower is advertised as 100ron in europe.

Any updates on this:

1 Fault Found:
008568 - Bank 1; System Too Rich off Idle
P2178 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100010
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 11
Mileage: 96875 km
Time Indication: 0

?

I also get this error code like every two weeks after clearing it via VCDS. What i heard it also can be a vacuum leak/leak air. Maybe someone has more info on that and how to check.

you have a leak - so on initial cold start with no vacuum in the reservoirs your secondary air injection is not working. It might start working after you have vacuum for a while to charge the reservoirs. But that same leak is big enough losing air when you come out of vacuum on idle and causing the rich code off idle. It needs pressure/vacuum tested.

Thx Doug, checked with a vacuum pump this weekend and found the leak - it is the line to the airbox. Replaced the 4-T with a 3-T and deactivated this line. After a few hundred km we will see :) thx!

Looks like I have the same fault :assflash:

1 Fault Found:
008568 - Bank 1; System Too Rich off Idle
P2178 - 002 - - Intermittent

I have recently noticed that most mornings when I get out of the car to shut the garage that the exhaust valves are rattling like hell. Then on the occasional morning no rattling noise at all. Sport button pressed on all occasions.

Okay, how do I test the vacum system and where do I get a vacum pump from?

I used a pump like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hand-Held-Vac ... 45ffe50b71
