More to it than that - you need the light sensing interior mirror, which means you need a different windscreen, as well as the light switch.

This is another of those "asked many times, answered many times" questions that pop up on here every few months.

Sometimes makes you wish why the person who specced it never ordered it.

Like my auto-boot was a £30 option, but cost me £230 to have it retro fitted.

It always works that way - as a factory order option you only have to pay the difference in cost of the changed parts, but as a retrofit you have to pay the cost of both the "normal" AND the option parts (and someone to swap them over).

Agree. But it is good that Audi still other to retro fit parts.

There's only a very small list of parts that Audi dealers will retrofit - for example the official line is that it is impossible to retrofit the sat nav or the Bluetooth - which is something that literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of Audi owners worldwide have done.

Do you its due to what type of steering wheel you have?

Iv had quotes from Audi to fit the Blinds, and SS+. Iv had fitted as extra option Black optics, ipod, titanium pack and auto boot all from dealer.

Nope, all Audi models, all years, all options - makes no difference - the official line is that retrofitting the sat nav or BT is impossible.

The reason? - they don''t offer a kit that includes the necessary wiring harness. So there's a large "cottage industry" making and selling the harnesses and the Audi OE parts. And with very few exceptions Audi only fit the wiring for factory ordered parts (the main exception being the pre-wiring for the US-only satellite radio tuners).

The iPod adapter and AMI are examples of the very few electrical retrofits that Audi officially offer.

Mechanical retrofits are a different issue and many Audi dealers will quote for doing them.

Meant to say "do you think its due to the type of steering wheel" But makes sense.

Two points:

1. AMI needs a 2010+ RNS-E, which Audi say is impossible to fit - as they don't do a version of the 2010+ RNS-E that fits the B7.

2. There is some doubt whether AMI will work in the B7 even if you have a 2010+ RNS-E. Some people tried it and it didn't work, but there's been a suggestion in the last week that it might work. Even if it does work, again Audi say it's impossible on the B7 - as they don't do a retrofit kit for the B7.
