Hi again everyone and thanks for all your responses, the car has now been recovered. i spoke to the pevious keeper last night and he told me that the car had a tracker horizon fitted but he never registered it as he felt that if it was stolen he would not want it back. So after finding this out thought i would do the right thing and phone the police and tell them, got though to control room and the lady took details and said it would be passed on, sat down for my takaway about 20 mins later and phone goes, local police station " thankyou for info sir but your car has been recovered don't know why no one has told you it is at egertons recovery for you to collect.
so phoned egertons this morning " yes sir we have your car but we have had to write to you as police could not supply us with a contact number, your car was recovered from crew at 15:44 on the 7th sept". The car was taken of the drive at 13:10 on the 7th sept so they only had the car for 2 1/2 hours and at the time when it was recovered the police were still at my house taking fingerprints and statments and stiil could not be arsed to tell me at least we all know what we pay our taxes for. will update you all on condition once i have picked it up

Really pleased for you. Hopefully it'll be ok. Shame the cops have been such numties.
Strange how the crooks went to so much trouble wrecking your house, for only 2.5 hours!
Be interested to see how this unfolds.

make sure the insurance dont categorise it as a stolen/recovered .... otherwise there is 30% wiped off its value

Afaik police are legally obligated to update the central database so there's nothing you can do to stop 'stolen recovered' appearing on the history.
You may be able to claim the loss on your insurance depending on the wording.

Sure its only classed as stolen recovered if the Ins company pay out and then its recovered.

If they've only had it two hours then hopefully is no more than a tank of fuel and a quick clean!

Correct.

A friend has 'stolen / recovered' listed on his Porka. Someone broke into it at an airport and stole a Sat Nav left on display, police came out and recovered it after airport security notified them as obviously it wasn't safe to leave an 911 in a car park with no front window for 2 weeks.

On return from holiday car wasn't there so thought it was stolen, as it was the police had it recovered and therefore it now is listed as stolen / recovered even though all it was, was Sat Nav and window no damage to the car.

If you do most HPI checks now-a-days this doesn't even show, they only list Stolen / Recovered if it was deemed a CAT C or D. Places like http://www.hpicheck.com/?gclid=CMPww_qs ... tAodJS-Qtg won't list it at all as stolen / recovered for his car because they only list existing stolen cars. Others state it was stolen recovered on x,y date.

Gutted for you that it was stolen, but happy that you and your car are back together again. Hope that there is no damage.

Glad you got your car back.

Although as mentioned it may now mean that its devalued.

I was looking at an RS4 for sale in local Audi dealership - it was HPI clean, however when i did a "your car check" on it, it showed as stolen recovered, was only gone for 2 hours and did 20 miles (as i was advised by local audi dealer).

However this did put me off buying the car.

for what its worth its doesnt show as stolen recovered on a HPI check, so Audi dealer will probabaly not know and hit with with a lower value (my local Audi dealer didnt know the one they were selling was stolen / recovered, and they did sell it for almost asking price)

There is a long thread on here about it (that i started) a couple of months ago.
