Euro rear lights??

Not a question specific to the RS4, but what's the logic behind these lights? I don't get what all the flashing is supposed to achieve?

If it is the brake lights then is for visibility - I have similar added to my bike, although I have added an extension cable to make it easier to disconnect for MOTs.

Is very effective on the LED brakelight & would consider wiring one into the tailgate light on the Avant but is shaky for MOT & may be more bother to connect/disconnect than the bike + may be looked on less favourably than a motorbike by traffic police/road users.

i have fitted a kit to my wifes a5 cab so the high level(boot lid)brake light flashes when the brakes are applied, this is not illegal as it only flashes for app'x 6 seconds, but it is illegal for them all to flash.it is a box about the size of a matchbox and fits inline on the supply to the light, fitted it in about 10 minutes,it cost about £15.I got it on ebay from a company called blaize electronics they do all sort of weird and wonderfull goodies some good some crap.

just to add this kit is really effective on l.e.d lights and really is eye catching when in operation,if you've ever followed a pushbike withjust a two bulb flashing rear l.e.d they are really noticeable, the bootlid light has about 20 l.e.d's,i think the kit does only work on l.e.d's
