no i dont own my own garage work at home and ive been a motor mechanic for the last 17 years lolP_G wrote:Just theorising here, but if carbon was building up as it should would that affect peak bhp at revs by occlusion? I just noticed that your peak power is at 8K+ rpm where as mine in 2009 was at just under 8k rpm but at 7702 at Christmas and peak torque is at higher revs.
Either that or my car is getting wheel slip at the top end.
do you own your own garage; just when you say about opening up the manifold and decoking...

the difference for peak torque rpm is negligible ~40 rpm or 1%...that is well withing the measurement margin, tire pressure, etc....mootP_G wrote:Just theorising here, but if carbon was building up as it should would that affect peak bhp at revs by occlusion? rated is 6000, but it makes peak basically 4000 to 7000 with a small hump at 6000, which with filtering/smoothing might be averaged out...
the HP margin is slightly larger 280 rpm (7700 vs 7980) but still only 3.5%, still within an acceptable tolerance...
the HP number is identical (within ~2 HP!) though, and since the peak HP is rated at 7800 the avg of your 2 runs is ~7840, so if you assume a margin of error on each run, you're right where it needs to be
the repeatablity of the measurements on these machines, factoring in the intrinsic error, tie down method, tire pressure, etc., 5% variations are best ignored...
the fact that the HP and torque are measured in decimals is hilarious (accuracy is 10 HP at best, more like 20 for 400!), and that rpm is measured with greater than -2 significant digits, the nearest 50 rpm is probably enough, is again, meaningless

Great result there fella.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: HOW HAPPY AM I AFTER ROLLING ROAD TODAY!!!!
I'm thinking you might not get too much gain with a decoke. Showing 408 pretty much standard other than exhaust is probably about as good as it gets. Mine was 355 standard then 405 with a clean. What do you think P_G?P_G wrote:Just theorising here, but if carbon was building up as it should would that affect peak bhp at revs by occlusion? Why with the bonnet up? Is that to aid the cooling process and would it still be an accurate reading?P_G wrote:Nice results; I use Motoscope as well and my figures last time (just before Christmas) were 396bhp and 318 ftlbs of torque IIRC on a 75k miles 5.5 year old Avant with non res valved exhaust on so pretty close to yours.
Dastek is pretty good as it asks for a learning period before you do power runs on it. Give us a shout the next time you are thinking of going down as I'm still to hear a Millteked RS4. Interesting yours was done with the bonnet up, pretty sure the last time mine was done with bonnet closed.

not sure TBH, but I might get my supposedly missing 18bhp back for a few thousand miles assuming of course that it is missing and that the dyno reading is completely accurate.pad125 wrote:I'm thinking you might not get too much gain with a decoke. Yours did 405bhp and we ran pretty much the same on the road +/- a few inches so it comes down to cost to benefit ratio. £500+ for a decoke for an extra 10-18bhp in my case for a few thousand miles; hmmm.....
Re: HOW HAPPY AM I AFTER ROLLING ROAD TODAY!!!!
I believe it is partly to compensate for the airflow generated by the fan not being the same as what your engine would receive doing the speeds it would in 3rd gear across the rev range and minimise engine heat soak since you have a whopping big V8 shoehorned into a tiny engine bay.Shagga wrote:Why with the bonnet up? What was the cost for this power run?
Re: HOW HAPPY AM I AFTER ROLLING ROAD TODAY!!!!
IIRC £45 for a power run which is actually two runs.
Re: HOW HAPPY AM I AFTER ROLLING ROAD TODAY!!!!
OFF TOPIC: We should do another rolling road meet again sometime in the Summer, I missed out on the last one at Paramount. Maybe SRR or MRC, maybe one in the Midlands so central to everyone. I know the old RR thing is debatable but would be a good crack esp as we have so many new owners now.

Are you able to post up your graph?
It's hard to see, but it does look like torque is slowly falling off rather than being flat and peaking at 5500. Power seems flat too, but again, hard to see from the monitor.
What was your wheel hp?
Here is my graph (from a new engine just after break-in) if you are interested in what the power and torque curves look like (it's in kW and Nm). The lower (blue) lines are from the old engine that was suffering from excessive carbon deposits at the time of the run. Notice the curve difference.

Re: HOW HAPPY AM I AFTER ROLLING ROAD TODAY!!!!
yep cat back exhaust and k&n panel filter, i was told by the oringinal owner who bought it new that it had been chipped by himself and that he had lots of problems with the car so ive contacted AUDI UK today and they have sent me a copy of all work carried out by AUDI dealers and it turns out it had the ECU'S changed under manufactures warrant just at the end of the 3 years so yes it is standard other than the exhaust and filter.novtec1 wrote:nice numbers.. so your only mod is an exhaust?
