Leon, is that Awesome in Manchester? I was in there a while back for a geo check on my S5. Great blokes. Fair prices also. He mentioned that they did skimming of breaks to get another cycle out them. Which at RS prices is worth doing. Forgot to ask him whether £118 (or something) was per disc or per car.

Very true but i think this defeats the point of the Pro-Cut system of skimming on the car.......I'll dTi ours before and afterwards to see if we have gained anything.
Anything that removes the judder and saves buying a new set of discs must be a bonus.

Yes that's right the Manchester one - its meant to be £118 per set but they charged me quite a bit more in the end as mine were pretty bad. Cannot be specific because they were doing other work. I left my car in the garage for 2 weeks over xmas while I was away on holiday.
Since getting back the brakes had juddered quite badly so I have called Marcus and he is coming over to Reading on wednesday to sort out the discs.
He seems like a very helpful and knowledgable chap when chatting on the phone.... and very reasonable cost considering the distance he is travelling to get to me.
I'll report back once he has worked his magic.

My brakes devolped a very nasty vibration after a 2 week lay up over Christmas.
I read this thread with interest and thought I would call Marcus and ask his opinion on my situation.
Well Marcus came to visit yesterday to skim the discs on my RS4.
I had arranged for him to arrive at my house at 10am, and despite the 120mile trip, he was early.
A hot chocolate later and he got to work.

I watched him throughout and he gave an expert commentary on what he was doing, and pointing out what was wrong with my discs.
By 12 he was done and left me to go for a test drive while he packed away his gear, and Wow, what a difference!
There was absolutely no judder at all.... price paid... £150 for both front discs, including a total round trip of 240 miles for Marcus.
Marcus is not a car mechanic, but an man with a wealth of expernce in milling and so skimming discs like ours is childs play, even though the machine shouldn't be able to do it.
If you are having symptoms of warped discs then give him a call and he WILL be able to sort them out (provided minimum thickness of disc).
And if you have any more doubt, don't just take my word for it, he told me that he has done some work for MRC recently and they have been very impressed.
Full marks for knowledge, service, price and most importantly... fixing the problem.

I'm no expert but going from what Marcus told me about my problem occuring after a 2 week lay up in the winter, the salty water mixture from weeks of gritting forms a layer of corrosion between the disc and pad.
This corrosion changes the surface of the pad and as the disc gets warm under normal and sometimes excessive breaking it hardens the disc surface at that point.
This results in uneven wear of the disc and therefore a judder.
As I was watching him skim them it was obvious where the machine was picking up the high spots.
If you are in any doubt, just give him a call and he will talk you through it.

Procut, who make the skimming lathe, say that you can't skim a floating disc. However Marcus, with all of his years of milling experience has a work around.
I think you'll find that there is only one may for the job... and he is in the south!
