That's right, but I was informed that SW0900 incorporates SW0080 also.
I'd hope it does :)
It's just that SW0080 should have been done FOC, 0090 is bloody/stone territory :?

by way of presumption would a 2005/6 car come with 0060 (or whatever the 1st incarnation was), a 2006/7 0080, later with 0090, or is it just lucky dip?

LOL I had my SW0090 FOC during a service (Oil service, discs, pads break fluid), I had it done esp for the MRC custom remap. One thing I will add, When driving the car on the current SW0090 the modification such as the 200cell cats and down pipes, the car felt like there was no power surge, Just goes to show. It was a different story when I had the custom remap uploaded.

No, I cant remember the order in which they came, 06 cars had SW0040, some had SW0050 and De-restricted Models had SW0030. However I may be corrected on this. I had them written down somewhere

ok, so I need to source a hex-can cable to be sure? If I purchased from a main dealer do they upgrade them to the latest as a matter of course prior to resale, I cant imagine its costly / time consuming?

The service dept will charge sales dept not that much less that a private customer so trust me it wont get done.
BBOY paid £33k for one a few weeks ago from big Audi Centre and it was on 0030, not even 0080 which it should have had at 1st service

christ alive, to think audi is a 'premium' brand they dont seem to be any better than anyone else. My colleague has a '09 focus RS, its due its 1st service next month and ford have already told him they will be upgrading the ecu software for cold start issues. If ford can be proactive, why cant a big player like audi?

it's down to the individual retailer, a software update takes quite a long time and the bay the car is in can't be used for anything else, couple this with the dealer maybe getting a small payment from Audi for the work or possibly nothing at all and you can see why it gets overlooked

fair enough, but i would have thought audi uk would have had it included as part of a servicing bulletin/instructions for the dealer as I the update is of benefit to the car. Surely in (quite a few) years this kind of thing might come back to bite audi in the ass, with some engines failing prematurely due to not being at the correct SW version?

Probably a bit far fetched but for some software to have that many revisions in such a short time frame it makes you think what old SW cars will be like in the future. Its not like its microsoft software and needs updating every minute of the day!

SW0080 was part of a field service campaign so dealers were told by Audi UK but there is nothing to force them to do the work needed, it wasn't a recall.

To get good emissions figures, cars are sold with imperfect maps, the SW updates fix this, possibly at the expense of emissions but once the car is type approved and registered it doesn't matter.
Mk4 Golf R32 was same way.

Is it easy for the dealer to tell you the software version level?

They need to scan the car with their diagnostic device.
Easy to do but to get through the receptionist to the point where some will do it will be hard.
Prob want you to book in and charge for 1hr labour

Recalls are very specifically ONLY for safety related issues (like the Toyota accelerator pedal jamming problem), not for "inconvenience" issues like this.
