I have a full set of "Continental Contisport Contact 3's" on my recently acquired Avant. I Realise these are classified as a Summer Tyre but are they going to be completely rubbish in the impending ice & snow ?

If you're after Michelins you could also check out your "local" Costco. I got a set of 18" Alpins last week for 906.12 inc VAT, fitting, balancing, valves, etc. That price was after their current 20% discount, mind (not sure if it's still running) and fully aware that the RS4 needs bigger tyres, and that Michelins aren't cheap... but might be worth a look if you're at a loose end?

Thanks for the tip kidyamlo.
However, I wouldn't let Costco change the tyres on my lawnmower, let alone my pride and joy.

A few years ago the monkeys at Watford Costco put some new michellins on my old T-Sport. Bunch of kids working there, more interested in checking out each others Halfordised Nova's, than actually doing thier job.
They then managed to cross-thread one of my studs, which required Audi to drill-out, retap etc etc.

Never never again.

Sonny The Gsd3 are very good in all weather they also seem to be wearing very well still plenty of tread left. I think the sidewalls are stiffer than the contis and also nosier but in my oppinion a very good tyre.

OK thanks Tel, I read on numerous tyre websites that the DSG3 dont have a touch on the Asymmetrics, "dont be fooled into the nice tread pattern" was on comment used, however these was a by BMW and lighter car owners, none of which was AWD 1600kg+ cars. To be fair, I think im going to stick with Asymmetrics, as I know the limit of Adhesion on these very well and can push the car to its limit, will have to start over again on a different model/brand.

Kidyamlo that price for michelins alpins was excellant for the 19 I got quoted £355 per corner Vredsteins £192 per corner. 255 35 19 winter tyres are like hens teeth at the moment.

I did not find SC3's very good full stop. Terry, how did you manage to find GSD3's? Great tyres; had them on my S3 and S4 but everywhere is now assymmetrics which are still great tyres but I still rate the GSD3's better.

Secret Santa wintracs came into their own this morning, effortless drive to work in the 4-5" inches of snow we've had oop north.....
1st thing I saw after pulling off the drive though was a BMW stuck on his 1 degree slope drive!

Still waiting for snow in Glasgow to test my Wintrac Xtremes which were finally fitted yesterday.

Mobile fitter Tyre Brigade did a good job though I now have a touch of wobble at motorway cruising speeds.

I had my winter tyres fitted yesterday and whilst I've had no snow or ice to speak of it was -2 when I left home this morning and the roads had that kind of wet icy sheen to them, I couldn't believe the grip I had. I'm sure this is just due to the soft rubber but I can see the advantages already. I'm really interested in how well they wear though, we'll see, but for now, bring on the snow ;)
