Finally took delivery of my little beauty

Post by Dubel » Thu Oct 28, 2010 11:17 pm

I can barely sleep with her sitting on the driveway.

Although one question, took her for a drive earlier and didn't really notice any real power difference after 5K rpm. This is probably a stupid question, how noticeable is this really.
Should it smack you in the face?

congrats mate and welcome

I would say you can notice it but it is not a smack in the face....I would describe it as an extra search but you can def feel it

I'm a relatively new owner, but in my experience I noticed little or no surge until I got a replacement air filter at MRC last week. Even then, it's quite a subtle kick, not like a turbo, but it just keeps going and going....

Yes, as extra surge sums it up well. Similar (but slightly less) to the surge you get in a Honda Type R with VTEC but nothing like as much as a turbo kick.

There are 2 things you are feeling - in the 1st 3 gears you do not getting full throttle (even though your foot is on the floor) until you hit 5000-5500rpm. In 4th to 6th gears you have WOT through the revs but at 5000 you get the cams changing and this gives you a rise in torque and another 'kick'. If you are used to turbo cars you would not call it a kick!

Good info - can we clarify - if you feel the kick in 1st to 3rd, which is WOT (In my car I definitely feel that) - is that then, not a fair indication/test that the flap/vacuum is working as it should be but rather you need to test in 4th to 6th to determine if it is working?

Because i have always felt the 'kick' at 5.5k rpm, at least in 1st to 3rd I assumed my airbox flap/vacuum system is working fine.

sorry fairly new owner if the question is too obvious

Cheers

Dunc

you need to test in 4th or above - it is not really a test of the flap - it is a test that there is a large enough vacuum leak to cause the car to run low timing.

what's the link between vacuum leak and low timing?
