Thinking of chaging from an '07 Leon Cupra to an '06 RS4

Do it fella....i,ve been a VAG man most of my driving life.....and this baby by far is the best yet.

I traded in a younger R32 for my older RS4.....had a few thoughts about getting a slightly older car but these soon disapperared after a day in the RS4!!!!

Dont forget forums tend to indentify issues that are only suffered by the minority...do your homework get a car with full Audi history and in good nick and you wont regret it.

If mines got carbon it sure doesnt show it and is as quick now if not quicker as its ever been.

Ive had no DRC issues.

The way prices are you may get an 07 for your budget in Dec..


I dont do intergalatic mileage in mine either and find the running costs ok..for a 4.2 V8.

I've always been a fan of the R32's and unfortunately they weren't in my price range at the time a bought the Cupra. The Cupra is probably on par performance wise with an R32, if not quicker (in the dry)

I'm a long time lurker on here and this thread is precisely what I was going to post in a few weeks. I'm in an almost identical position as I've a Cupra R (mk1) and have always fancied an RS4 ... even more than a 911 which is also in my "to consider" list.

I've reservations about spending 30k on a 3 year old car in a few months but these sound like they are pretty robust and if low mileage should not be a problem. I'm not a car flipper (had my LCR for 7 years now and I love it - so practical) so the RS4, should I get one, will be a long term keeper that I'll aim to put no more than 5k a year on.

I've also thought about a 996 or 997 Carrera, although realistically I doubt I could afford to run one and having a small family this could also lead to problems.

Thanks for the link Scottie, It's nice to know that forum members are looking after each other with securing a good warranty deal with WD.

I will consider this option if I end with an RS4.

I purchased a brand new Focus RS last June 09, I have just sold that and gone for a black 07 RS4 Avant, so yes two years older but far better in quality and image.

I drive an 08 Clio 1.5 D as my daily drive, so dont mind the fuel the Audi uses, mind in 6th taking it easy its 24/25 mpg, not bad.

My two previous cars to the Focus were an M3 CSL 03 and M3 02.
The quality of the Audi beats them as well!

Will only be changing in a few years for either an R8 or 997 911 turbo in white. These are the only two cars I think for me will better it.

I also considered a Focus RS, although the other half commented that it was too similar to the Cupra and doesn't want me getting an another "FORD".

We currently have a 2.0TFSI Cupra as a second car and previously a LCR 225.
Both fantastic cars.

Forget about the age of the RS4 - it feels like it's hewn out of granite and every contact with it just oozes quality.

Be warned the RS4 is an addiction...the driver communication, power, grip, sound....and the way its sits on the drive post waxing looking plain lethal lol

I can admit to being having a little "OCD" issue with keeping my cars clean, although not as bad as Detailing World Styleee....

What would everyone's tips and advice be when looking for a potential purchase on an RS4?

Apart from the obvious on how the car looks in terms of overall condition, how would you know if the car is a dog or not. Would it be wise in paying for a third party inspection (RAC, AA or similar) of the car I really like? I've done this when purchasing a few cars, however the last three cars I haven't bothered.

I bought a 'used' RS4 that was 4 years old. Yes it's a lot of money for any car of that age, but found a good one which has some Audi warranty left so if it turned out to be a pup could get it sorted. But this has NOT been the case

As regards to warranties, rememeber they only cover certain things. There are very reputable RS4 specialists (Unit20, MRC). I will not be renewing my warranty, with speicalists like these about, they should be able to fix any problems at minimal costs.

I too am a long term VAG owner and know the brands very well.

Read up lots before purchase of the RS4 and was aware of DRC,carbon,oil,fule,etc.... BUT I STILL WANTED ONE !! glad i did too, soon these type of cars will be extinct with all the regulations,etc....

i would not worry about going from an 07 leon to and 06 RS4, the RS4 is at least 1 car above the hatch market and audi really do interiors well so you will only be impressed.

I had an R32 before the RS4 (2004 mk4). I wanted to escape the hot hatch market and am very happy with the RS4.

I think for the money you are talking about you should be able to get one from audi and hence a 1yr warranty. try out a few to get the feel for them. I test drove 2 before buying, both felt quick (significantly faster than my dads E46 M3) so i was happy with power / speed (a subjective test I know!)

its a great car, you wont regret it.
