Left mine on Long Life service but do a oil change myself in between the service (works out around the 5 to 6 K mark). Use Castrol Edge as seems to be the one most UK owners use. Not to fussed about the cost - 20 or 30 quid extra for decent oil is nowt over the 5000-6000 miles.

with the capacity ~9.5 l and the quality of filtration (canister type) plus an oil cooler I don't think the oil type is critical (as long as it is Audi approved, correct wt, etc.), not to mention most of us seem to do 5k mile changes...

I think letting the oil get hot before applying load is important
as is avoiding short trips, etc.

There's the rub.. in Southern California, short trips are, unfortunately, the norm.

Most of my driving is short trips or traffic (not by choice).. so I'm planning on 3000, maybe 4000 mi oil change intervals.

Agreed, I always keep below 3500rpm until engine oil temp is up to 97 and then run it good. And try to avoid stop straat trips or ones wheer the engine has only been turned over for a few minutes. My local supermarket is 4 miles away but I'll do a 20 mile journey to get to it so the car has warmed up. Probably why it has 71k miles on it!

I take the long way to and from work...
takes an extra 5 minutes, but it's all highway and the oil gets hot...
even though it's further, I get better mileage because the engine warms up faster vs in town, stop and go driving...

I'll run mine up to 5-6k after a few minutes, but very gradual, gentle throttle, and never lug it...if I start at home, I push it sooner, heated garage, if I start from outside and it's cold, I'll wait a bit longer

all bets are off after it stabilizes ~195F or so :D

At what temp does the RS4 remove the 7k RPM limiter.. I don't seem to see a oil temp display until this happens.

In any event, I definitely dont push the car until the oil is at least up to temp..

I was on another forum where someone was complaining they keep bouncing against the 7k RPM limiter and it made me cringe..

Cold oil and bouncing against a limiter at full throttle..

7k limiter goes when oil hits 60c. When I had a remap at MRC the 7k limit was raised by them until 75c which I am absolutely fine with as never give it the beans until 90c anyway (besides 60c feels a little low).
