Oil Cooler pipe inspection

Post by lengster1 » Wed May 12, 2010 6:54 pm

Strongly recommend doing this guys,my car is on a 56 plate and 1 of the pipes was rotten yes rotten.Noticed a weep on my drive so removed the small slitter in the middle of the bumper (10 mins) to gain a visual inspection,as you look at the front of the car the right hand pipe had split paint with rust/oil weeping from it!!! Put the car away and ordered the part for when i got back from next work stint, today fitted it,WELL..........upon cleaned its way more than split paint its rotten, shocking for a car barely over 3 years old,it was siezed to the oil cooler and took some crafty work to remove it,ive heard audi are blaming someone at the factory overtightening the union, well the person crimping the pipe to the flexi sections is also overtightening the crimp aswell as that wasnt far behind,if this goes at speed on the motorway the first you would know about it is when your motor has emptied itself of oil and probably died, poor show really on the quality of materials used and they clearly havent addressed it since the b5

My car is a 06 and pipes and cooler has been replaced due to corroded pipes, also the join to the cooler had corrode totally and it was not cheap either, shocking as i had only just had the car 1 month.

there is a thread about my car and me trying to laim on the warranty, top tip do not buy from auto prestige of bradford unless you go over and under the car for a couple of hours

I think if mine were in at the dealer it also would of ended up with the full lot replaced, the nut was solid to the oil cooler, patience and awareness of the cost for a new oil cooler and another pipe made me persist,Given the possible bill for this and as Mac has found out some warrantys may wriggle out of it (Dont think even audi extended covers it?) i think it would be a wise inspection to add to the list,Sorry meant to say small splitter Doh

I asked if it was a recall as id heard similar to what your saying Borgelite,It bloody should be covered undered 10 year corrosion if nothing else, could you check for me? Recovering the cost of the parts would take some of the sting away from a day with my 56 plate £30+k car in bits for rotten pipes

Campaign 17D7 according to Audi and its visual inspection / remedial work if required when its next in for service - They won't actively get in touch with customers to notify them to bring cars in though.

Lengster its a known issue to Audi so would be worth asking them the question, especially if your service history is up to date.

HOW LIVID AM I ? As per another post i rang service department about this no reply, warranty guy at the same dealership no reply, parts when i ordered the pipe also new nothing but to be fair its not there job to know is it? Utter Rubbish how many calls do you have to make? Im not sure wether to take this up with Hull audi or customer services, given Hulls failure to ever return calls or have anyone to answer a phone i may be best with customer services!! I dont like going in the dealership anymore as it always ends up the same horrible atmosphere because yet again im not happy with useless service,Last time they blamed "armchair services" for not passing on my name and number 4 times to return my call,i wonder if they will get the blame again?

I had my cooler and hoses changed due to the seals leaking with a 60% contribution from Audi customer care after speaking to them in a nice manner, my car was a 2006 model with FASH and was 6 months out of warranty and was not bought from an Audi dealer

Cost to me £400 plus the VAT ;-)

What issues????, the car i gave them was in exellent nick as they sold it quite quick, wish i had kept it tbh

So why have they ignored 3 recorded letters and no one answering calls from trading standards.

What did they do to resolve my issues, i have not spoken to them after they fobbed me off, dont listen to al they tell you mate thay have failed as a dealer.
If i have had a negative service then they deserve negative feedback mate, sorry
