Aye, drive past the (now - used to be a B5) Sprint Blue B7 RS4 outside the computer shop and your house with the black cab on the way to the hills to walk me pooch. One day I drove past and saw an R32 instead! Nooooo!

I know I know
Changes in work location meant the 4 was being wasted, It wasnt even warming up by the time I was at work, thus the only 'run around' replacement I could think of was a R32.......I managed to find myself a low miles minter but they are chalk n cheese, cant get the v8 noise out my head, thus I'm looking again!

What do you drive?

The R32's twin sister, an A3 3.2 quattro S line. Nearly got myself into an RS4 last Sept but got married instead so all the pennies went on that instead. I'm now approaching the point in the next couple of months where I can buy an RS4 Avant but to be honest I'm having second thoughts. We want to keep our next car for 4-6 years and also get one she can drive as I can't get her reasonably insured because she's a foreign national. That said, she likes the S4 Avant and is willing to be a passenger for a couple of years until I can get her insured but the big plus is I can buy brand new and get five years warranty for an extra 900 odd quid. Billy bargain. That versus a 3 yr old Avant and having to shell out on warranties for the next five years and it's a no-brainer I think. Trouble is, I've thrashed an RS4 around a track for a day and the thing is absolutely magnificent. She's not keen on the interior styling and really doesn't like the buckets! I need a car for all seasons, thrashing around, carrying my Spaniel and being comfortable enough for a 2500 mile round trip in Yerp. Hate to say it but I also think it's starting to look a bit dated as well.

A3 has to go, a recent long drive to Skye has convinced me that I cannot live with that suspension anymore. That suspension on such a small car is an absolute bloody nightmare and I just end up getting really stressed on long journeys. Point to point and it's hoot if a little disconnected. If ever there was a car that needed an S button, that one would be it if only to have a less fractious ride and throttle response. The other thing I'm considering is a 3 series BMW Touring 330d but it's absolutely tiny in comparison to an S4 Avant. I haven't driven either yet but will do in the next few weeks. Halesowen Audi have an S4 Avant apparently so I may well go and see what the score is soon.

Wow, thats some serious mileage journeys you cover!

I popped into Halesowen a couple of weeks back and the salesperson seemed to be in big favour of the new S4, really saying good things about the engine, until I said its still no v8  but if you're not used to the v8 then I guess that may fit the bill.

The other thing you might want to consider is the 3.0 tdi model, if you are not adverse to the dark side fuel pump

If ever you want to stop by for a chat you're welcome

The Audi 3.0 tdi engine is a peach - was presently suprised when I had one as a loan car. Very grunty but quiet (wouldn't buy one though).

Therein lies the rub, it's not a V8! I've only spent a day with one but that was enough to know that it was utterly, utterly intoxicating and if they still made the RS4 I would absolutely have one tomorrow. Trouble is they don't and the S4 has actually had quite a lot of favourable reviews and it also has that exclusivity that we Audi drivers like. I've only ever seen one on the road (on Harborne Lane of all places!), Phantom Black, RS6 wheels and boy, it looked nice.

I've looked at the 3.0 tdi but yet to drive one. The problem with Audi is that they are properly stingy when it comes to deals and discounts. With my occupation I can get a 10% discount and 6% interest rates on a BMW straight off with no discussion whereas Audi..

Cheers for the invite for a chat, if I see your car outside next time I'm driving past, I'll tap on your door. Always nice to have a natter with a fellow enthusiast!

I did!
Haven't got it yet though. The current owner is taking delivery of a new car soon so he's kindly given me a bit of time (if I need it)to sell one of my own cars. Biggest problem is deciding which one to sell.
I cannot wait to get the RS. Its one of the last on a 57 plate so has got 10 months warranty left and has done only 10000 miles. The stunning white paintwork is totally unmarked and really suits the car. I've always fancied a white Avant but didnt think I would ever manage to find one as they are extremely rare I believe. It's also got brand new black 20" BBS alloys, ceramic brakes, full milltek, sunroof, sports suspension, and much, much more. I'll post up some pics once I get it if anyone's interested.
Anyone want to buy an unmarked 07 A4 3.0 TDI Avant quattro with only 35000 miles or a very special 345 bhp 22B Impreza!

Well done mate, I couldn't see that hanging around for long.

I wouldn't have normally have considered an avant but that one stood out and I was ready to buy, except that my grandad decided it was his time to go and priorities had to move to my family that week.

I hope you enjoy it when you get it, and yes pics please with the 20's on!

Regards
