water in boot lid

Post by yass » Fri Nov 20, 2009 11:23 pm

hi
my bootlid in my 4 akways fills with water.

iv tried taking this through the warranty but audi are having non of it as they saying it is due to water ingress.

The boot lid has no cracks or seals broken, cant figure out how water is getting in. There are to small inserts on either side underneath the boot lid where you can actually drain the water out, but why the f*** is it happening when it shouldnt!

any comments would be graat gys.

Well at least the dealers half right, it is water ingress and is a common fault/warrenty repair.

I had the same issue - can't remember the exact explanation but it something to do with the seals round the lights - even my usually difficult dealer sorted without any issue.

Likewise, sounded like a wave machine when opening & closing the boot.

Was sorted under warranty & never happened again, although it was a while ago so i can't recall what caused it or the fix.

Had this problem.

It absolutely IS a warranty issue. Audi Milton Keynes did mine whilst it was having a prolonged DRC holiday with them. It was, apparently, the seal around the light clusters in the boot lid.

That was a year ago and it has been 100% since.

The TEMPORARY fix is to pull the oblong rubber bungs out of the boot lid bottom edge - i must have got a litre of water out when i first did this.

Thanks guys

i think the best thing to do is ring my warranty up first get it authorised, then ring my local stealers, as i think they cant be botherd waiting on the phone to get through to wattanty. Everytime i go in and mention it to the advisers they tend to fob me off and say its water ingress. i explain but dont want any of it.
il keep you informed on how it went.

My car has this problem and i called Aberdeen Audi today, guy said oh yeah it's the seals on the spoiler, it happens a lot. I said the spoiler is formed from the boot and has no fixtures as such! Anyway he said they will fix it as a warranty job..... no question at all. I then said that the carbon fibre.............. and before I finished he said "is going green"! I said yeah and he said we'll fix that for you to, no worries.
Spot on if you ask me, still a little bit worried about the water what with the electrics in the boot lid, will report back when fixed.

Mine's been in twice with this problem and has recently developed it for a third time. The first time round the dealer applied an Audi re-work instruction to re-seal part of the boot lid, but it didn't fix it fully. They then did a major job on it with a bit of local improvisation. That worked fine for 6 months but the recent frost has bust the seal again and it's going in for a third attempt. If they can't get it right this time I am going to demand a new boot lid!

Had the car checked, the seals are shot around the tail lights and they have a new design of gasket apparently, that will fix it. carbon fibre for engine bay is on back order and they are going to refit the leather on my seats, no arguments, no issues, just good service.... so far. Both guys I dealt with were very good.
Car to go in once parts have arrived, will update again after the work is done guys.
