have I been ripped off?

Post by leechaos_666 » Sat Nov 21, 2009 1:54 am

Hi guys I am new to this forum, I have just bought this.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1322358.htm

it has just been moted and has new discs, pads and tyres all around.

Have I been ripped off based on the mileage. I got half a years tax thrown in with a 6 month warranty.

Thats quite a few miles for a normal user, it may have been an ex company / lease car and it really depends on the condition if its only been motorway miles. No doubt you negotiated hard based on the mileage and didn't pay the asking price ? Looks good in pictures and has right spec so if you are happy don't worry about it - just drive. Also if you don't do many miles yourself it will come back into line by the time you get rid of it

You have me worried now because my car has more miles on it than that! I just enjoy driving it too much!

As the rest have said, about right for the price.

Thanks guys for reassurance, how many miles are these cars good for if maintained well, also how much do you think this car will be worth in 6 months time, do you think they have leveled off now?

APM did have the highest mileage RS4 at the time at just under 90k miles but sold it on.

I reckon the engine is good for at least twice round te clock, 100k easy.

Difficult to say given there aren't many older cars. If well maintained they should be good for well over 100k. I once was in a taxi in Gran Canaria (a merc) and the driver said it had done over 300k. He said oil and filters changed every 10k. I'm sure with the v8 (which even tuned up as it is still isn't really worked like a scooby or evo engine is) is nearly bullet proof.

At the end of the day, until we have 5-6 year old examples available it's impossible to say.

In terms of value, they'll only ever go down in the long term but there are B5s around that seem to have held good value given their age. So fingers crossed for our residuals too.

A quattro GmbH engineer was quoted as saying the engine was good for 150k without needing major work - prob more if on time/distance servicing rather than long life.
