led drl's
Ok, so managed to get the job done just before it went dark, 15 minutes in total to change the bulbs over and they make a definite improvement. Don't know what you lot are complaining about trying to get access to the near side unit, a gentle but firm push down on the rad pipe allows enough space for even me and my sausage fingers to get access to the bulb holder and no cuts or expletives used in the entire process
I just have to find a whiter version of the side light bulbs that illuminate when main beam goes on as they are the only yellow element of light now.
BTW, has anyone upgraded their front lights as they are fairly yellow also?

I must have giantisim in my hands as i found the bulbs a real pain to refit removing was ok but putting in was a mare never notice the side lights as it either drls or main lights not heard of anyone changing fogs if thats what oyu mean?

Well, here is my attempt and I tried both resistor 25W 10R (from Andyuk911) and 50W 22R (similar to Rjkflyer, can't get hold of 24R). 25W 10R definite generate too much heat, 160 degrees Celsius whereas 50W 22R put out around 68-70 degrees (which is still too hot to hold with your fingers but should be ok when mounted inside the light cover which definitely give a oem look).
The only thing with 25W 10R, no bulb out error at all but the 50W 22R give the bulb out error with a beep when engine starts but then disappear. Is 24R and 22R that much of a difference? As I think Rjkflyer said he has no error bulb out. So just gotta put up with an extra beep on engine start for now.
I haven't yet been able to locate Brooner's led in Sydney yet. The pair of LED I got was only $20AUD (less than 1/2 price of the PIAA Chrome Mirror bulbs) and I am quite happy with the look of it.
I didn't have much problem removing and re-intalling the bulb holders either.
Next, I attempted the same on our Q7 but the LED wouldn't come on and bulb out error came up (with or without resistor)...any advice or tip???

I've just fitted the mirrored bulbs from PRI racing and can confirm that they look great, I don't see why you would want to mess around with LEDs IMHO. They look good when switched off too. it is a bit fiddly on the driver's side but still only took me 30 minutes all in all.
To complete the set I would like to do the sidelights, any views on these anyone?:

i may go this route as well if they look as good as the leds without the messing about.as pg said would be good to source the little bulbs that sit up in the top corner of the drl

Likewise from PRI racing, phoned them Thursday lunchtime and the bulbs were with me by Royal Mail SD by 9am on Friday morning for no extra cost over their standard postage (paid £3, SD was £5.20)aarghesfore wrote:Oh yeah and full credit to PRI racing, ordered late Wed night and they arrived on Friday special delivery in the midst of a postal strike
Yes, that worked. Thanks Dave. Luckily, the Q7 bulb holder has connectors that can be unplugged and swapped around. (unlike the RS4). The LED flickered though, any idea how to get around that?PetrolDave wrote: Try swapping the wires round - LEDs are polarity sensitive.

Thanks again Dave. It worked fine with both sides installed (included resistors). Look so much better than oem halogen DRL.PetrolDave wrote:That's usually a sign that the bulb failure warning system isn't happy with the much lower load from the LED than a bulb.Ozrs4 wrote:The LED flickered though, any idea how to get around that?
Anyone with Q7 should give this a go. It's a lot easier to do with easy access compare to RS4.

Just found these answering my own question donThey look good but does anyone know if our sidelights have a bulb blown feature? It is too wet for me to bother going outside and unplugging one!
I might try the fleabay ones as they are only a couple of quid although I do like the idea of proper LED ones even if they are 50 quid.
I wanted to add that fitting the bulbs yesterday was the first time I have fiddled with the car properly and brought home what a quality bit of kit they are in terms of the design and engineering. Easy to forget that when focussing on DRC issues. My last cars have been Audis and BMWs but I haven't played around with them so didn't get a proper appreciation for how well made they are. Before that I had a Clio Williams - great car but made of tin foil! Quite literally as some of the 'bolts' were just pressed steel.
