Engine Cleaning

Post by yass » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:53 pm

Can any one advise on products they use to asthetically clean their engine, i want to avoid using a jetter on it as most manufacturers advise after using the chemical.

Not sure what a jetter is but this is how I sort mine:

firstly take off carbon trim panels
use foil to cover up electrical plugs i.e. MAF etc
spray autoglym engine cleaner or similar around the bay (taking care to avoid overspray on paint)
Agitate all of engine/bay with tooth brush etc
use a hose to spray a light mist around the bay to wash down (try to avoid using lots of water)
spary Aerospace 303 liberally over all bay
remove foil, close the bonnet and go for a drive to bring the engine up to temp.
once home, open up bonnet and wipe over the 303 where necessary -job done!

All in all (excluding the drive) it shouldnt take more than 5/10 minutes tops and results in:

I'm sure you missed a bit on the firewall Rob...

I prefer to use clingfilm not foil as it doesn't conduct....

Autoglym vinyl/rubber cleaner is a good substitute for Aerospace 303
