I'll be the first to criticise them, but I don't personally feel the Sessanta's are as ood as Goodyears in the dry. in that they seem to transmit a lot more road noise and vibration on anything but billiard smooth tarmac although the grip levels are excellent both wet and dry and I have toyed around with several pressure settings to see if this helps. The quietest they have been was on the way home last night in cool damp conditions, the heat appears not to suit them in the 1000 or so miles I have done in the last week.

Took about 500 miles for the my Sessanta's to start feeling decent. Using pressure 2.7 front and 2.5 rear as per spec label in car.

Tried Micheldever Tyres, or Denmead Tyres (ask for Darren)?

Called Micheldever but they cant supply Vredestein, still waiting for a call back from Denmead with prices...Gonna have to chase them up tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend any other places for Vredesteins in the Midlands / Oxford ?

oh im surprised at that. the tyres are available from mytyres and tyrexpress, quoted on page 1 here say they have them too. mytyres quote protyres as one of their fitting services???? there is one in fareham. im in eastleigh so was looking at the protyre place here. is the problem that they are in short supply or that they wont fit tyres which they cant order themselves? i need a set within the next week!!!!

I have never had a car that had the built in tyre pressure sensors. What happens when you get the tyres replaced? Normally you get new valves put in - how does it work in the RS4?

Ask then to use the valve in your current wheel and the TPMS parts are also easily identifiable. Always best to have a couple of RS valves handy though as they are not that well designed, will cost 11 quid each from your dealer. On my last set I had to change 3 of the 4 valves as they were knackered.

The previous owner of my car must have taken the TPMS sensors off as the valves on my tyres are just flexible rubber. If I get a new set of sensors, do they need to be coded to the car somehow or is it automatic?

Vredestein tyres

Post by Desmo » Fri Aug 14, 2009 4:44 pm

Hope you don't mind me commenting on this B7 thread as B5 owner, but I've had two full sets of Sessanta's now. Personally I found them very grippy in the dry and outstanding in the wet. Definitely the quietest I've ever had on a low profile, PZeros being worst, PS2's pretty good. Also Sessantas keep there integrity until wear is low, unlike PZ's they don't start tramlining like a bicycle stuck in a drain, once the first few mm;s have gone. However I think the PS2's are a little more hard wearing but only by about 2k miles - I generally get approx 10-12k miles, with 'spirited' driving (as they say) on motorway and country twisties. However one alarming problem I've now experienced on 4 of the last 8 tyres - the inside side walls have split to the cord BEFORE the tyre is worn to a point of needing replacement. Even though I check tyre pressures and wear has been even. Elite Tyres whom I always use have offered to returm them to the manufacturer if I could ship the tyres back them (have never been convenient-too far). They felt sure Vredstein would have replaced them. But it happens again on the two remaining, I'll be returning them. Has anyone else come across this problem?

I appologise as I know this has been covered before somewhere!!

I've just managed to scrape one of my rims (oh deep joy). I read somewhere that fitting 275s gives a tad more rubber protruding over the rim. Just enough to protect it from light contact with something. I'm just poised to order a set of 255/35/19 Vredesteins but now I'm wondering whether to go for the 275/30s. I have standard DRC on standard RS6 wheels. Anyone got Vreds 275s fitted. Any problems???

Just replaced all 4 tyres with the Vredestein at my local fitter.

They did a good job with no damage to the alloys or pressure sensors so i though i would recommend them to anyone in the Glasgow area:

Prestige Tyres - Clarkston - www.prestigetyres.co.uk

Cost me £160 a corner fully fitted - a very good price in my opinion. Camskill are selling for £145 but i couldnt find anyone (i would trust) to fit them.

They werent the most chatty but perhaps that is because i turned up half an hour before they closed on a saturday
