k&n panel filter? to wash or not ?

i did intend to have some work done on my rs4 by MRC the ITC panel filter would have been part of the plans but after weighing up my options i dont think i will be keeping this car for a long enough to justify the costs involved ....
i have a k&n panel filter in my parts bin therefore a low cost upgrade ? ..........
ive used k&n in filters both panel and cone on many bikes both supersports road bikes and competition motocross but have no experience of "high end " car applications
...just dont want to screw up my MAF so i guess the answer is Dont F*** With It
