Long term benifit from a new engine is pretty obvious- it's done in this case 39k less miles!
Also as his car is coming up to 3yrs old, his NEW engine has a futher 2yrs warranty.

39k miles is nothing when the expected life of the engine is 250k+ miles.

You're going to need the extra warranty with the damage that the dealer probably did when fitting the new engine. Oh but that will be to non-engine components so the warranty won't cover them...

Wow... It's depressing how little faith you have in Audi.
I take your point an engine should last more than 39k miles but 250k+ is optimistic on a performance car that revs to 8200rpm. Also most people don't buy a car and keep it for 250k miles so they wouldn't be too concerned about how the 4th or 5th owner in the high mileage car may or may not be coping.

The quotation I was given on engine longevity with this unit is 150-200k miles without major overhaul.

I know what people are saying, in principle a new engine should increase the value - its new! But my concern is when someone asks why, if your honest and tell them the truth, they may decide to look elsewhere, even another car all together. If I was buying an RS4 privately now, id want a dyno for sure!

Come on, a dyno!!
Most sellers wouldn't allow you to dyno their car (even if you paid).
Dynos aren't the best apparatus for wear and tear on cars - and after you had your dyno, you turn round and say "no thanks".
Emm, a bit optimistic.

Nick I think this is a valid point and I have to agree that if I had known what I know now there are a number of things I would do and check and if buying 2nd hand for the sake of £40 why not stick it on a Dyno??

...Was it the same person who said the DRC would last 85k...?!

All the work was done by the Master Tech - trained to the same level as the guys who put it together in the 1st place.

Not a bad Idea about a Dyno however... does anyone know anywhere in the Midlands where I can get this done? I think the results would be facinating - considering it feels significantly quicker than when it had 8k on the clock.

Any suggestions appreciated

No, three different sources. And your assumption on Master Tech's ability isn't correct as they are generalists for all models, not specific to engine or RS cars albeit they have ahigher level of knowledge than techs..
