moving from a GT3RS (996) to an RS4 (B7)

Post by poon » Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:41 pm

Hi guys,

Newbie here, please be gentle, I currently have a GT3RS (Pork owner for last 10 years) but need to get more sensible with my choice of vehicle.

Decided on an RS4 and just have a few questions, appreciate your views etc:

Wanted in my mind a black saloon, but decided to test drive a Sprint Blue Avant at Audi Slough because they are close to me, then went to see a black saloon at Fontain in Iver, totally changed my mind now.

The saloon boot is not that useable, abit like posting a letter, the opening is small but the boot is big. The Avant however is perfect bootwise. Really like the look of the Avant so not a really hard decision. But colour wise really like the Sprint Blue now, despite my Mrs saying it is gay! Kinda reminds me of Nogaro Blue from the original RS2/4.

Pretty much decided to use Audi rather than private (peace of mind) or other dealers, am I being wise here? Not that there are any Sprint Blue Avants currently for sale outside the network.

Options that are a must are:
Buckets
Flat bottomed steering wheel
Sprint Blue or Mugello

Preferred but not a deal breaker:
Carbon inlays
No sunroof
ipod
Bluetooth
Ceramics
non optic pack

Have I missed anything?

Price wise there seems to be quite a range at the moment, one dealer a
has a:
7500 miler at £35000 this is Mugello blue which is not my first choice, the other below all Sprint Blue
another a 31000 miler at £33500
another a 18500 miler at £37500
and another a 29500 miler at £35000

Whats a fair price for these cars?

Most of the Audi prepped cars have had or will have discs/pads and tyres done, 12 month warranty, so I shouldnt need to budget for anything (other than a Millteck system) in the next year or so.

Thoughts/advice appreciated

TIA

As I have said before, you have to buy on condition .... the cheaper one might have refurbed(poorly) wheels paint dings etc etc ...

I would not rule out a private car ... as most people don;t want to bend over for a dealer ....

Just make sure it's not got DRC issues if it's coming to the end of it's warranty period. Search on here for the DRC issues, there are loads of threads about people woes.

I'm sure you can find some 30k bargains if you search long and hard.

Yes, aware of DRC issues and had Alex at Fontain telling me about 80000 mile 5 year goodwill on DRC.

Condition, agreed, I have been driving the sales guys mad today with all of my Q's about service history, items changed, tyre tread depth etc etc.

The Sprint Blue Avant I saw today at Slough Audi was really clean, new front discs/pads and Kumho Ecstas all round (not sure about the Kumhos), no sunroof and buckets etc, has done 30000 miles and was in better condition than the 16000 mile car at Fontain.

Would be happy to save a £'s buying private if the right car came along at the right price.

spiders could lay eggs in the drainage holes, causing internal leaks...one reason not to have a sunroof IMO ;)

I can see the attraction BUT I hate looking at glass where metal should be, I reckon I could live with a metal tilt and slide but not a glass one.

When Porsche optioned a sunny on a 997RS they made a big mistake IMHO

If it has the solar roof this is not glass so when closed inside you have lining. I had a solar roof on my RS6 and it was superb!!! so don't rule one out! Sprint Blue is a georgeous colour!! Be GAY!!!!:thunbs:

Hi Shindy,

Car was lovely, good useable power in all gears, amazing levels of grip and handling for a big car. Decided on the Avant for a combination of practicality and looks and after seeing a sprint blue in the flesh made up my mind.

I have found using dealers in the past fine, they are less likely to quiblle about warranty stuff, your circumstances were borne out of trusting them to deliver on a car that you hadnt seen, I think that personally you were just unlucky, but hey if the right car at the right money came along privately I wouldn't discount it.

Cheers

Stuart
