RS4 Avant Advice sought

Post by PP » Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:56 pm

Hi Guys

I have not been on this forum for a while now, since my RS2 & RS6 days.

I am looking to get a low mileage 07 RS4 Avant and would be grateful for the options you guys think are the most desirable.

Is sports suspension (SS) worth it on UK roads (car will not be tracked)?

Is DRC an issue on SS cars? Any other major issues?

Thanks

Up to the individual really, some say it's great, others say too harsh for these roads. Might find that with the state of the roads with all the pot holes that have been left after the cold weather SS+ may not be a good idea with the stiffer suspension. I also think IMO that SS+ looks too low on the back wheels

I agree with you about the pot holes. But hopefully our dear Government will be creating employment by fixing the roads. :D

I heard it cost on average £78 per hole to be fixed.

By the way I know of a really low mileage black RS4 Avant for sale in mint showroom condition, send me a pm if you're interested.

In your dreams...

AFAIK SS+ is no more or less affected by the DRC issue.

Agreed, and personally I think it looks better - not worse

I have SS+, and on my first set of shocks the ride was less harsh than my B6 S4 - I was surprised why people thought it otherwise

When they were replaced (DRC issue) the new ones were set to a higher pressure, and whilst this too a bit of getting used to, it was still not unpleasant...

Flat bottomed wheel - a must
Seats - biggest debate, and only you can decide
Colour - second biggest debate, ditto
Trim - most prefer carbon
SatNav - I've only ever seen one without
Adaptive Lights - nice to have, but not essential
Ceramics - hugely expensive, but I'd take them at second-hand prices
Arm Rest - some want it, most don't
Optics & Privacy - work better on some colours than others
Sunroof - not sure
Fridge - pointless
iPod connector - there are better (but not perfect) solutions
Phone Prep - OK if you need it, but not in conjunction with MFSW

I'm sure I've forgotten loads...

Sports Suspension Plus

Post by GE04FFO » Wed Feb 25, 2009 6:30 pm

I recently bought a 07 avant with Sports Suspension Plus and so far have no problems with the firmer suspension, I thrash it around country roads when i can and love the firmer suspension. It is very low at the back but IMHO it looks good.

Thanks

I suppose they are very expensive to replace though? Reliability? Porsche owners often ditch the Ceramics in favour of steel.

SS+ is great, it is firm but the damping is so good that you dont notice it too much in that it is by no means crashy and you would expect with a harder set up.

IIRC you can't buy the set up, you would have to find a donor car that wants normal suspension and swap.

Flat bottomed wheel, Buckets, any colour, carbon trim, techpack with sat-nav adaptives, optics. Sunroof would be handy.

Ceramics would be nice & also S/S Plus

Now the search begins. :)

Good luck.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
