problems filling up (other than the price!)

Post by scoobyc » Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:45 pm

I've noticed this before but always put it down to our local garage but today tried somewhere new and the petrol pump kept cutting out when i was trying to fill the tank up. Used to have this problem with a couple of porsches and my subaru and ended up turning the nossle around slightly in the hole. This worked for a while but still cut out a good few times. Has anyone had similair problems or better still found a solution. Also noticed that the gauge wouldn't read full even though it wouldn't take any more and i'm sure i read somewhere about somone getting theres re-calibrated as it never read full? Thanks in advance for any help, sc. :D

Dont forget there is a fuel breather in the neck of the filler, you need to hit this with the nozzle from time to when filling to release the air and allow the tank to fill completely.

I also find it helps if you don't push it all the way in (ooh err matron etc etc ...) - retract the nozzle about an inch back from the fully in position.

With the TVR I once had you only new it was full when petrol started running out all over the forecourt! So I guess this is better ...

just had a nosey and realised that the "button" for the breather pushes forwards in-towards the tank, not to the rear of the car so i'll give this a try before filling next time!

yep - I'd only just worked that out - but it seems to work for me!

Used to try the 'twist method' but it's a bit hit and miss
