Having claimed with elephant before and direct line, I can say dont go with them. Especially on an RS4. They will send your car to one of their 'back street' garages as they tried to do with my old S4. Having had to claim for my RS4 recently, I can fully recommend my new insurers. Its through a brokers called Michael Ward Associates. They bent over backwards to help including sourcing me an rs4 hire car to use whilst mine is being sorted. Cant fault them one bit and they have helped with everything. Yes the insurance was more than the others, but I will never scrimp on cheap insurance again. It really is worth the extra money when you come to claim.
just my 2p worth.....

Whatever the quote you get, make sure you're happy with the T+Cs...some will try to have your car repaired by non-audi approved bodyshops etc, but if the T+Cs say you have the option to use official repairers, there is nothing they can do about it.

Direct Line for me as well. Been with them for years, through Volvo T5, CLK55AMG, RS6 and now the RS4 however I do shop around each renewal. Gone down each year, now about £800 p.a. with full protected no claims, 34 hard years of life – steep I know, but not for a Company Director (allegedly we’re a risk!) living in a City with on road parking.
RE: Who do you insure with?
I was surprised at how cheap my insurance was - was initially going to take a policy out with Diamond but Elephant turned out to be £70 cheaper. Shop around.... and it is often cheaper if you can put on a named driver onto your policy.
Saying that you only know how good the insurance is when you need to claim on it (which I hope is never)

RE: Who do you insure with?
I am with NU at a wapping £1,500 for a 39 year old with 6 yrs ncb!! had two non fault accidents, (which still affect things), one own fault, (morally not) and a bird strike (must have been wearing a crash helmet and a kevlar vest) which stoved in the front of my M3 costing £1,300!!
All adds up to not many will insure me and that crazy premium!

RE: Who do you insure with?
Im paying £800 FC protected with MCE and £low XS. I have no points, but had 2 non fault claims in 2005 (on consecutive days in different cars, wasnt easy to expalin away)
Incidentally I got their number from this forum, (thank you) and they beat my previous lowest quote by a few hundred pounds. I havent had to claim, but found them very professional.
Ive had trouble with Admiral and Directline in the past when claiming or changing policy details.

Everyone is unique, just like you and me.
RE: Who do you insure with?
I have claimed through elephant with no issues. Like most they try to send you to some cheapo crap body shop that they get special rates from.
I have just insisted on official places and they agree, you just lose the use of their free Saxo hire car.
I have used another company to hire a decent car and added it to my claim.
