Misfiring on cold mornings (kangaroo'ing away from home)
Misfiring on cold mornings (kangaroo'ing away from home)
Engine misfires for about 5 minutes from ignition on cold damp mornings. Symptoms are abrupt drops of power when accelerating, kangaroo-style. It goes away if I stop and restart the engine.
After a few days of observation, that problem seems to happen when the engine doesn't rev up as high as usual on start-up. The issue occurs when the engine only hits 1000 and sits there after starting up. The normal start-up pushes revs to 1300-1500.
Any idea? Is the the famed ECU upgrade? Car is Nov 06.

Have the same problem, however I now leave it to run for a few-5 mins before I set off and its not as bad.
Was reading EVO last night and there was a funny article regarding the long termer they have, something like, they were having it serviced by the dealer and having the ecu flasher before it was sold. Cant remember exacts but have a read anyway.

Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Thanks guys. I've booked her in for an upgrade. Not sure whether the code applies, they've got back to me with the usual "No other customer has reported a problem" and "NZ cars are different, we have our own set of codes, blah blah".
That's an ongoing problem in a country that has sold about 30 RS4s all up.

Cold misfire
Hi feelou - also local in Auckland. I'd be interested to know how you get on with this "fix". Took delivery of mine 3 weeks ago and noticed same problem but only happens for the first few minutes, definately noriceable tho. Local Audi told no known problem.......... hmmmm
RE: Cold misfire
I have had this install supposedly done and found its even worse. Would be interested in others comments. My old code was better.
That p*sses me off every time. Not only do they rip you off when they sell cars in NZ (the RS4 sells in NZ for the price of an R8 in Europe), they also provide poor service. I assume it's partly because they have no idea, partly because they know there aren't many options to have the car serviced around the place.Hi feelou - also local in Auckland. Stopping the engine and restarting works for me. But it's just now what I'd expect from a $170k car.
I'll bring the car to Giltraps on Wednesday, and will be overseas for a week or so. Will let you know.
