Emissions warning light has come on.

Post by tartan_rob » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:56 am

On the way to work this morning whilst minding my own business and not thrashing the car it came on (in fact whilst in the 50mph zone on M4 between Jn11 and 10).

So I got into work, plugged in VAG-com and it would not work. I got the error message that the interface was not ready. Throughly cheesed off.

Now I'll have to take it to the stealers....

Hope it's not K&N related.

That would not explain why the interface is not working

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust??

Heard that many RS4's with AM zorsts suffer with the Emissions warning light coming on.

I have reset the emissions light about 5 times now, i think it must be something to do with the exhausts and hi flow cats i have on it!

I run std exhausts etc. The only thing different to std is K&N replacement element. In fairness why would that cause the emissions to fail..? Unless the MAF has gone but the the car would run like a dog - and its not.

K&N replacement element
After my experiences on my old 2.7T, never again.

But I really hope you get it sorted soon Rob. Emissions could still be MAF; VAG could be other software interfering with the port. Had this before too with the old Nokia suite IIRC and Nokia serial data cable/HEX-COM.

Not always, sometimes the MAF fails and the car runs ok.

Emissions warning Light

Post by PatrickRS4 » Fri Jun 15, 2007 2:49 pm

I had a problem a couple of months ago - in my case it was the throttle body sticking and this was replaced under warranty. The light cam eon when eitehr stationary or stopped in traffic.

Not sure if this helps,

Patrick

K&N

Post by DuncanMac » Sun Jun 17, 2007 8:20 pm

Just from my experience with my previous AMD S4, I had a k&N put on and after 400 miles it had destroyed both the MAF and the ECU - both needed to be replaced at quite a cost! So just from that I wont touch an oiled element filter again.

Im not sure if the K&N was a function of the ecu failing, but after the new ecu, new MAF and rechipping I had no further issues for 20k miles until I sold it. It was a 4.2 v8 with the full cat back, sports cells remap and high flow filter.

Hope you can get it sorted and would be interested to know if this was the cause...

Guys - I finally managed to get a into the car via an old version of VAG-Com. The error read something like:

right bank running rich, NIL M adopted. Intermittent

Anyway, I cleared the code (before saving it.....doh :bash: ) and the car has been fine since.

If it happens again, I'll copy the code.
