mpq?
What sort of mpg are people getting out of the Avant? Since picking up the car (5000) miles or so ago, I’ve averaged 16.2.
For some reason (lack of turbos for example) I thought it would have been better than my old RS6 Avant as that hovered around the 16.8 mark.

RE: mpq?
After 1 year (car registered 27/04/06, happy birthday!!) and 10,000 miles on BP Ultimate the best is 25.4mpg (on run to Center Parcs last week), worst an indicated 5mpg crawling through traffic near work. Average about 20mpg
Wife not too impressed, she's getting 40mpg plus from A3 2.0 TDI sportback.
Biggest shock though was paying Gordon's £300 for tax disc last week, won't make me sell it though!!

RE: mpq?
Andyuk911 – thanks for the response, I only occasionally run high octane (one in ten tanks or so), will things (apart from power) improve if I always go for the super stuff?
RE: mpq?
I only use super, and have got an average over 7000 miles of 17.9, I get regular 24 on long journeys but as most of my mileage is local driving, high 16 is norm.

The engine works best on high octance, OTHERWISE the ignition timing is retarded to stop pre-ignition. This equals lower power.
I sometime use BP102
(£2.42 1l)
Your car will be slower than mine
Additionally, Shell V-power (99 octane) and BP ultimate(98 octane) have cleaning agents ... I have seen an Audi A8 run one bank normal and the other BP Ultimate and the difference was amazing.

Don't be disappointed if you don't see any improvements instantly, it takes a few tanks for the engine to adapt!Afanargoed wrote:Thanks all for the responses.![]()
Going to give the higher octane stuff a go from now on – what’s a couple more quid a tank in the scheme of things!

Unless you have had a re-map, specifically for 102 RON, then you wont actually gain any benefit from using BP 102.Andyuk911 wrote:I sometime use BP102(£2.42 1l)
BP Ultimate is 97 RON, not 98. Futhermore, BP Ultimate has been proven, in two independent tests, to be worse than Tesco 99 (which is also the official fuel of the British Rally Championship) and also the now obsolete Shell Optimax (98 RON).Andyuk911 wrote:Additionally, Shell V-power (99 octane) and BP ultimate(98 octane) have cleaning agents ... BTW, I started with about 24mpg, whilst running it in. But as I open her up, it's starting to drop - about 18mpg ATM.

Now I am confused?
I thought we were supposed to run these on the best fuel we could, but I read your comments as this is not the case?
Please put this into plain english, for me at least.
Thanks
