Gearbox Issues

Post by DuncanMac » Wed Apr 04, 2007 9:27 pm

Having some issues with the RS in heavy traffic and when it gets hot.... Car has a reluctance to go into 1st... goes in but with a bit of shove and bucket of bricks like entry! Any ideas?

Its going in for a service in a few weeks (10k) and wil get them to have a look and do the TMC as well. Have also heard there is new ecu software out?

Apart from that.... it just gets better and never stops to make me smile ;-)

Have not had the sat in traffic issue but have had a problem when coming off the motorway after a lengthy period, the gearbox will allow you to come out of sixth but then bulks when trying to select any other gear. I tried to go into 5th and 4th, and it felt tike I was trying to select between the gates. I mentioned it to service dept and they could not replicate it, but suggested changing the oil as the problem gets worse when hot.

Probably not much use to you, but my first RS4 (bought July '06) had similar problems... had a right struggle to get it in gear sometimes.

But my current RS4 (bought Nov '06) hasnt had any problems like that so far, gear changes have been much easier and havent had any of the problems I noticed in the last one.

Not sure if its an issue relating to earlier models of the B7?

Cheers... Mine was one of the first around along with djcevo's and daz's... So I would suppose it could be an early batch issue... mine had the clutch issue that was replaced under warranty within the first month.

hey ho... off to the dealer we go...

Was a question I was asked, did it feel like a clutch issue, they bled the clutch anyway just to be sure but no air in it...

I find the RS4 gearbox very notchy when cold, reasonable when at normal running temp and like what people sya here abit iffy when hot.
It would be interesting to see what Audi say about these faults, are they just a trade off for a gearbox capable of handling 420hp.........

Wouldnt think so, a B5 box with the selector adjusted corectly is a bit notchy cold, and fine the rest of the time...............

There was a problem with one of the clutch pipes on early cars which caused difficulty with changing gear - maybe you've got the old pipe?
