Fix for the noisy air vents?

Just picked up my new RS4 (2007, clear indicator spec) and the air vents are still noisy and get even worse the quicker you go... this is with the fan setting on 1 bar. If I turn the vents off it can sound like trying to tune a radio in sometimes.

I have just handed back my early B7 RS4 and that had the same problem, but I seem to remember reading on here that there was some sort of fix available involving the filters used in the vents and was hoping it would have been sorted on my new car.

Does anyone know anything about it? Going to contact my dealer today and see what they have to say...

I've had "comfort" settings applied to my car's climate to try and restrict airflow. Not done any conclusive tests yet though as I really need to get onto the motorway to try it properly.

Any idea what applying "comfort" settings involves? Is it a VAG-COM setting (if so what?), or did they have to change some components?

Presumably all software, certainly no parts changed as it was done on the spot.

I'll ask when I'm down next.

I run mine with all the vents fully open, but pointing as far upwards as possible, where I don't seem to have any unwanted air reaching my face. Seems to reduce things to a quiet level.

Strange that Audi haven't addressed this problem yet - it does my nut in on my '04 B6. Are they actually aware of it being a recognised problem does anyone know?

If it is a high pitched whistling from the center stack vents it may be that your HEPA filter has come loose and needs to be clicked back in. That is what it ws on my wife's A6.

Given this has happened on both the B& RS4's I have had it seems a bit of a design fault then... how do I go about clicking the HEPA filter back in?

Just heard back from my dealer and he has confirmed that Audi are aware of it, but this is no fix available at the moment.

He is suggesting that the pollen filter can be replaced with the charcoal one which will help deaden the sound, but the only problem is my new car already has the "Automatic Air Re-circulation with active charcoal filter" which was a £130 option... the other suggestion is the activate the air re-circulation option which should help prevent the noise.

No idea, but my car has been fine since I sent it back for a them to sort out in December... dont get any more air rushing through the vents and its much quieter.

Agree as here, it is pants and the only way to shut it up is hit the re-circulation button... please fix this Audi !

It seems they have left a baffle flap out of the system. Have complained bitterly to Audi UK and dealer and they say there is no fix for this, if you want to make a call or talk at over 70 you have to turn aircon off, or hit recirculate which only slightly reduces the noise... total crap..

I noticed the same noise in mine the first time i drove it! Never had a problem on my 51 A4 Avant.
I just open a window and listen to the exhaust note if it bugs me

Would like it fixed now it know its a known fault

B5's had a baffle plate which was closed by vacuum, hence the lack of noise, Audi decided to drop it in B7
