Newbie S3 owner - questions

All things being equal I will be a S3 owner this weekend.

Because my car sold instantly (and was through need rather than want) I had to do a bit of quick car shopping, and settled on a S3 I liked not far from me.

But I hadnt done any research (please dont tell me what goes wrong, I had enough of that on PH!) and have a few newbie questions - which i'll apologise in advance for.

Firstly, its a 02 reg - how can i tell whether its a 210 or 225bhp version?

Tyres? Its probably going to need a set soon, what are the best ones? I'm more concerned with longlife and road noise than getting an extra tenth around a track tbh.. and hope they are significantly cheaper than PZeros!

iPod - My current car has a Denison Ipod interface, but it uses the CD changer input, and the car im buying has a boot CD-changer, is there anyway to hook up an ipod into the bose system?

thanks :D

Welcome

02 reg - definately 225bhp! You can also check the engine code. If you stand drivers side looking at the engine, it you peer under the engine cover nearest you, it will be there. APY and AMK = 210bhp. BAM = 225bhp. You can get it chipped to 270bhp anyway - highly recommended!

I am currently on my third set of Goodyear F1's - awesome - also highly recommended! Think I paid £210 for my last pair.

Don't know about electrical bit.

Where abouts are you based?

Dave

Thanks Dave!

how long do the goodyears tend to last?

I'm based in Wiltshire just off the M4.

As for the tuning, is that the MTM kit? I'm hoping to avoid that as the S3 is supposed to be a sensible repalcement for my current car, but having been used to 300bhp I can imagine hankering after it in the near future, how much is the upgrade?

I think I get between 12-15k on the F1's, can't remember exactly!

Not the MTM kit, that is expensive! There are several companies that do a generic map, ie REVO, AMD, APR (I have this!) or custom maps from MRC, a site sponsor. REVO etc. are £500ish, plus more for controllers/different maps on cruise control etc. Not sure about custom maps. MRC are based in Banbury, and rated very highly on here, especially for S4 work!

At the top of most forum sections there is a 'sticky' which lists the cars data, HERE, this has the consumptions.

Here is another thread of my fuel consumption, HERE!

cheers,

I was meaning can I run it on 95 RON? My 996 says in the manual it retards the timing if the fuel is below 98RON, now not that I have run it on that, but then the S3 was supposed to be the sensible car!
