I've just bought a 2002 225bhp S3 and im looking to get the ecu re-mapped. I've looked at MTM, AMD, REVO + APR, they all seem to offer similar products, which company do u think offers the best product. I am planning to get new turbo and exhaust some time in the future so would want to take this into consideration when making my choose of who to go for.
what do u think

Hi Andy,
it really depends what you are looking for. Each remap have their own characteristics - MTM said to be very boost spiky, AMD good for low end grunt but runs outta steam, APR/Revo hold boost thru the rev range etc. IMO (and I'm biased as I have the product) - Revo are best at the moment due to the flexibility of serial port programming and Dongle timing/boost control. You can also put the car back into stock mode for when the G/f drives or the car goes to the dealer..
However MTM and AMD will no doubt not be far behind..
Have you also considered Jabbasport?
Sportec is an unknown as I think they concentrate on RS4/the big boys more however I think AMD do a hybrid AMD/Sportec remap.
Also consider cost implications (and what your budget can stretch too)
Choice will also be affected by the 'custom' remap where companies like Jabbasport will custom map your car on a RR for you..
Have a search on the forum(s) - this is a regular topic..

If you're planning on a turbo upgrade then I'd go for one of the tuners that offers this service, they may not hit you with the full re-remap price when you do get a biggun bolted on.
Cheers

Jabba do a IHI Turbo and ceramic manifold - reportedly 330-360 bhp for approx £3600
bit cheaper than MTM

Go for the MTM remap,
I've ran an S3 for over a year now with this conversion and have no problem recommending it.Fantastic 5th and 6th gear overtaking ability, where previously you were changing down to 4th to overtake you can now safely do so in 6th.
I find in real world conditions such as the typical stuck behind an artic at 50mph situation, the MTM remap is excellent. The std car felt slow and went ok,the MTM car feels quick and goes quicker. And in over a year the car has'nt as much as thrown a fault code or blown a turbo hose,so reliabilty is excellent.
Take a spin down to QST and drive their demo car.I defy you to resist getting the chequebook out there and then
Just make sure to upgrade the dumpvalve and inlet hose when you rechip and you may as well stick an exhaust on there as well....

Mmmm somebody forgot to mention Abt? they are supposed to be really reliable eventhough alittle expensive.
They do the following versions :-
184kw / 250bhp (350nm) Optimisation of the electronic motor management
195kw / 265bhp Optimisation of the electronic motor management, Abt rear muffler, modified air flow
213kw / 290bhp Optimisation of the electronic motor management, Abt turbo charger, Abt exhaust pipe
228kw / 310bhp Optimisation of the electronic motor management, Abt turbo charger, Abt exhaust pipe, altered air intake system, Abt rear muffler, modified air flow.
Der Abt!

There is also Oettinger ( Road & Sport, Banbury) There is also a warranty with their remap.
Difficult decision I can't make up my mind at the moment.

or do i save my money and wait for the RS3
or you could get Revo as a temp solution
I`m going to be meeting someone from Revo at the end of the month so i`ll keep you posted on any developments!

cheers riz will be interesting to hear what u think of revo, but the more i here the more im put of of getting a revo remap.
MTM + ABT seem to only concentrate on audis and they dont offer re-maps with that much power, and im sure they could if they wanted to do but they obviously deem it to much for the engine with that much power from just a remap, and it seems that revo are out to prove a point by having a better product than APR seeing as they were same company, so question is are they compromising the relability of your car over having a product that will give u more bhp than APR.
At the moment i think i will get a MTM conversion. Mainly due to the fact the seem to have a lot of experience with conversions on audi's, REVO seem to be a software company what are u going to do when your engine does bang
And dont forget u get what u pay for £500 re-map on a £25000+ car

_If_ it happens, we'll probably do the same thing as you!! Remember, the rumours that you have heard are probably unfounded. There's too many Chinese whispers floating around. If you have facts, please present them; otherwise, don't become part of the grapevine....
The reason Revo have been able to produce more power is that they have the ability to modify the tables that other tuners haven't managed to do yet. Also, by using the SPS system, you are able to choose what power you want when you want. Nice
One thing's for sure, Revo are currently the only tuner who can remap a car without removing the chip in the ecu. MTM have a great reputation, but I'm pretty sure that the direction that Revo have taken is a good wake up call for all the other tuners out there. Serial Port Programming is the way forward, others will follow.

but the more i here the more im put of of getting a revo remap.
what have you heard?

I think Revo are VAG specialists too, but will expand to more cars. (similar to superchips). Revo have safty margins and im sure they have obeyed them, afterall if someones engine did blow it would basically shut them down?
and it seems that revo are out to prove a point by having a better product than APR seeing as they were same company, so question is are they compromising the relability of your car over having a product that will give u more bhp than APR.
The power figures do not differ too much accross all tuning firms? and with Revo SPS3 you can adjust the power anyway! Revo were APR Europe and basically ventured into their own firm! (Revo) so when it comes to experiance and know how i think they know what they need to know!
REVO seem to be a software company
Yes but what is the real difference? This solution is basically the same, rather than ripping your ecu out to have a soldiered chip put in which is pre-programmed they upload the program via the OBD port! This of it like a pc BIOS chip, you dont need to swap the chip, you just re-flash it? simple
what are u going to do when your engine does bang
Ermmmmm worry, of even better reset ecu back to oem and call RAC out!
I think Revo still have the major advantage`s of SPS tuning.
MTM are well known im sure you wont have problems, but im sure every chip tuner has had their fair share of troubles, and remember that Revo is totally undetectable to VAG tools etc?

Simons S3 showed nearly 300lb of torque on AMDs rolling road - so who says REVO are the ones pushing out too much power?
My Revo S3 uses less boast than MTM and AMD, approx 1.4 bar and my torque figures are coming out as the same that is quoted for the Sportec remap by AMD - 350nm (260lb/ft)
rumours rumours rumours when all we need are facts
