Has anyone tried any aftermarket induction kits on their S3s?

I know Dean had one on his S3. Not too sure of the manufacturer though [img]images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]
He has said that I can have it off him. Just finding the time/place to collect it [img]images/graemlins/062802beat_prv.gif[/img]

As soon as I have it fitted I will stick a post up on my thoughts

I'm not convinced that aftermarket induction kits are of any benefit on the S3 (apart from sound) - Does any tuner make claims about them? Why should I consider one (thats a question)

The basic K&N panel filter made a noticable difference on my car. It allows the higher flowrate air through at high revs much better. Another advantage of most of these kits is that the filters are serviceable. The K&N is good for 1,000,000 miles if regularly serviced, apparently. Service cost reduction in itself is a good reason to get one. I have no experience in full induction kits that draw cooler air into the engine. These must be of some befefit too.

Would be nice to see what people have tried. When tuning my car I wish I had done rolling road sessions between mods to better understand the benefits/contribution of each one.

Do simple K&N panel filters make a difference in the stock box? I've got a exhaust fitted now and I'd be intrested to see if it does make a diff...

I really doubt a K&N panel or induction kit would make any noticable difference to performance. (I have tried a K&N panel on my S3 by-the-way)

panel: 1 or 2 bhp (maybe)
induction kit: 2 or 3 bhp (maybe)

I think the most important thing is getting cold air in. So if the induction kit was shielded in some sort of container, with a direct feed of cold air from the front of the car. It might, just might, be a worthy mod. But I think you'd still only be talking about a few bhp, NOT 10-15bhp.

There are a couple of lads on Audi-Sport.net who have done: cold-air feed-to-standard air-box; jabba-sport style enclosure; and even a cone contained in the standard air-box.

Problem is, no one has done a dyno run with standard setup, and then done another run with the air-box mods. There's no proof that these mods give any power gains.

I have also got a K&N panel in my S3 and it made no noticeable difference. There is also concern that oiled air filters, like K&N, have adverse effects on the MAF.

The new JS induction kit has been designed specifically for the 20v turbo engine, with development carried out on our rolling road giving a 4-6 BHP increase.

We have found that induction kits & panel filters with oiled gauze filtration, cause contamination on the air mass sensor leading to running problems.

Our kit comes supplied with an INVO Stainless wire gauze air filter. This gives all the benefits of a high flow, low restriction filter, with none of the problems of oiled filters.

Included in the kit is a cold air separation panel, this allows only cold air to pass through the air filter, reducing overall intake temperatures & therefore increases power.

There are two types of kits available, throttle cable, & fly-by-wire. Both come complete with a full fitting kit & instructions. There is also a choice of style with the INVO air filter either a Twist, or Straight type cone.

I think the issue with the K&N is that people over oil the element after cleaning. I have been running a K&N for 45k miles and no MAF issues. Let's face it, the MAF suck.

I dont know if this is relevent but please bear with me.
I used to have a 206 and i bought a PiperX air filer for it (cone type) but it actually made the car run worse.
Because the engine got really hot it was sucking that hot/humid air into the engine at low speed, high speed it was no better than the oem filerbox.

This shouldnt be a problem with the S3`s using just the k&n filter parts, but it is still limited by how much airflow its getting to it in the first place? Has anybody considered another cold air feed to the oem filerbox?

Just so u know jabbasport dont do the there induction kit for the s3 yet, the induction kit on the website is for a golf and the reason there is two types is that one is for the mk3 and the other is for the mk4. Currently they are working on there turbo conversion for the S3 so they dont expect to produce a induction kit for the S3 for another 4/5 months, if the demand is there for them.

Speaking to Michael @ Jabba on Friday - one of his friends has just bought a TT, which they'll be using for development, so this should speed up the arrival of both the TT and S3 big turbo kit and induction kit.
