540hp in a Mk1 Golf is great stuff, but it's not a car you can use every day, pick up the mother in law, and take the kids to school in is it. Well obviously you could, but it's just not practical. And which would you rather drive to Spain in - an S3 or this Golf? I'm not saying it's not a fantastic car, because obviously it is. It's a characterful little car that hopefully still handles well, and goes like sh!t off a well polished shovel, but it's not a road car, it's a mission-mobile! I bet you'd still get SCREWED by the Dahlback Golf (Mk4 running up to around 900hp). Or howsabout that twin engined TT with 940hp? It's all just madness, great fun, but it's another world. This forum is all about classy cars with leather seats, air-con, a CD changer in the boot, but this strange ability to suddenly disappear somewhat rampantly.

Chaps at work.. 1 with Scooby (standard) other with Rallye Golf (1 bar boost 200 or so BHP) think they can out do me 1/4 mile?

I owned a 1997 MY impreza which has the same engine as the Catalunya your mate has. I doubt if there will be anything in it.
