I'm new the S3 World having just moved up from a 106 Rallye Pocket Rocket. The air filter and the exhaust look like two areas for immediate tweaking on the Audi.
In terms of the filters, are a panel or cone filter best for the S3? Whats are people on here using and getting the best results with?
Also the Milltek exhaust seems to get good reviews on the forum. Is there anything I should look at instead or should know about this system? I'm looking for a full system with sport Cat.
Any advice appreciated.
Cris

panel filter is recommended if you must but not necessary, the standard exhaust is not restrictive either, sports cats don't achieve much of a gain either.Personally i'd just go for a remap if your sticking with the standard turbo.

agree with Ryan - Miltek does nowt (you can only get CAT and CAT Back no downpipes) and filters are not really necessary either...
Have you got a remap yet?

No it's not chipped, but I've had quotes for it being done - An extra £230 with Adrian Flux to go up to 270Bhp, which is the region most remaps seem to go to?
That said a few of the people on here seem to have the chips taken off cars they have - why's that?
I never fiddled with the ECU aspect of the 106, but it did benefit from some improved airflow, so that was my immediate thought here. In light of the comments on the S3 forum from some members, what is the life span of the standard exhaust from new in terms of mileage? Just trying to budget in advance for replacement at somepoint.

well its stainless so could last for years and years really.
With modern turbo charged Audis an ECU remap is really the first performance enhancing mod you should consider. I also dont know anyone who has removed their chip from a S3, the 1.8T engine is well proven in terms of remapping...

hi there
air filters dont do much apart from increase noise...even with the big turbo conversions alot of tuners leave the standard air box and filter.
exhausts... i had a milltek on my corrado ... knocked and touched the chasis all over the place!!! heard the same from s3 miltek owners too!! if you really want an exhaust get a supersprint... fit much better but the power incrase is limited.
im getting my s3 mapped on friday at amd. taking it from 210 bhp to approx 260 bhp
remaps on the pug NA engine wouldnt produce much...but on the audi FI engine its the first thing to do!!!

have you checked out audi-sport.net
no offence to this forum but they seem more orientated around the RS models.
there is a good S3 following on the audisport forum

I only replaced the s3 stock exhaust because i am using a non-standard turbo, downpipe and manifold.

Agree with the comments about filters etc. The Milltek exhaust only claims a modest improvement of 5-10bhp and I would agree with this from my experience. Chipped my S3 then put the Milltek Cat-back on it 9 months later. It gained about 8bhp according to RR. I felt I could just about feel this but might have just been optimistic
It does look better than the standard one though, and it gives the car a more sporty sound if thats important to you. It is a quality piece of work and I had no problems with fit/rattles/knocking etc.

Good for you mate
270 from a straight re-map and no other mods is great.
Transforms the car no end - torque is brilliant!
Did they comment on why it was producing so much power? Other mods, high miles?
Cheers
Ben

I made 267bhp and 263lb/t on AMD's rolling road that with the car running a 1.1bar map which i later found out to be a amd remap. On a very accurate RR(2 weeks later) i made 244bhp and 243lb/t which is a bit more realistic for a remap alone ,i would expect around 255bhp and 280lb/t from a aggressive 1.3+bar remap ie mtm or revo.
Have you had your rs4 remapped ben?Would if i'd be able to keep up with you now?The intercooler is going well mate although it was a pain in the arse to fit and a broke about 5 clips!!

about the air filter.......I really think some of you should go to tmtuning.com. Their offer on the 1.8T engines for the vw, is pretty much the same as the Audi's - The RSD Air force kit - I got this kit fitted on my car, and believe me, there is not better sounding S3 around, and I will stand by it...notice a increase, but that might just be me believing in it too much....but will get a professional look to see the figures of increase
(visit this site in the summer they got a whole tuning page dedicated to AUDI owners)
