H&R Springs

Post by S4_kiwi » Tue Oct 09, 2012 10:00 pm

My car has got H&R springs, while I love the way it looks I'm not at all keen on the way it rides.
The ride is too harsh especially on some of the roads up here in Lincolnshire, it bounces all over the place on bumpy roads. Not pleasant at all.
Can anyone suggest a less harsh, but still lowered set up, or am I better off going back to the standard factory springs?

I've just had to do exactly the same.. Although the car looked really good the ride on the h&r springs is really harsh... I have 19" wheels fitted which probably didn't help either but the car on a lot of back roads would bottom out. I have just had the original springs fitted back.. Doesn't look as good but the ride quality has improved loads and no more scrapping.

i'm running the stock 18" B7 S4 rims with 40 profile toyo's, and i scrape pulling in and out of my drive

maybe i need 19"s with a 35 profile to give me a gnat's more clearance??? :bash:

Can't really justify the price of coil-overs, so I think its back to standard springs for me annoyingly.

Same set up as you (H&R's, 18", 40 profile) apart from offset with no rubbing at all in the arches. The only thing is sometimes on a steep speed bump I can scrape the exhaust which incidentally didnt happen with standard exuast only since the Miltek went on!

My arches are fine, it's my Milltek that scrapes every time I pull in and out my drive (as well as speed bumps), approaching the obstacle at an angle helps.. but not much.

What is the fit of your Milly like? Mine hangs quite low in the centre section, and the adjoining bracket betwen the 2x rear boxes is wonky which has always annoyed me since i got the car. When you stand far back from the rear of the car (as per a car following) it looks p1ssed on one side.

Interestingly a blacked-out Lava Grey B7 S4 Avant spanked past me on the M40 yesterday mid morning, presumably running a Milly too, as when he shot into the distance, his too was p1ssed on one side. :biggrin3:

Hmm, TBH I'm not sure. I'll have a look in the morning. It definitely hangs down more than the original. It's only usually the single speed bumps (2 bumps side by side) that get me not the ones that cross the whole width of the road. I used to be able to drive over them with a wheel each side of the bump but I need to go over them now with a wheel on each bump (if that makes sense?)
Anyway all worth it IMO for the look of the stance and the sound of the Milly! ;-)
