New Brakes
New Brakes
I will need to replace the disc and pads in my S4 soon. I was wondering whether anyone has fitted anything other than the standard brake discs, and could recommend them.
I don't necessarily have a problem with the brakes, I just like the look of drilled and grooved disc (I know I will get more dust!)
Has anyone any experience with an alternative brake type?

Re: New Brakes
Based on other forum members experiences and comments here I have opted for some dimpled and grooved Mtec's with MIntex pads, will post a review up on here when my experiences with them are substantial enough, should get them this week, 200 mile bedding in period and we will see.
I heard from the guys at MRC that DS2500 are meant to be good, but not tried them yet.
If you search through some threads there is info on the EBC discs/pads as well.

Re: New Brakes
I've got the MTEC and mintex combo the same as Lee. Got them for a good price and they seem fine so far. The dimples & grooves have started to get a bit of brake dust in them, but not as much as I was expecting to be honest.

Re: New Brakes
I've got a full set (front and rear) of EBC Ulitmax USR discs and yellowstuff pads sitting in the garage ready to go on. I'm going to fit them in the next couple of weeks so I will review them on here when fitted. They look pretty mean though, and they whole lot cost me £411.
Re: New Brakes
Oh my god, it's taken me about 6 hours work just to do one front corner. It was all going well until I got to the caliper carrier bolts and then things came unstuck, well stuck actually. After about 4 hours trying to get them off last night I failed. I bought a big breaker bar this morning and straight away off they came. They the disc was rusted solid to the hub so I had to hammer, bash, wd40, lever etc the disc for about 30mins to get it off. The new disc and pads were on in about 10 mins, fitted it all, touched up the caliper paint in situ and now I'll wait till tonight to pop the wheel back on and do the other side. Then onto the rears...........(next week).
It looks good though (this pic was before I touched up the caliper paint)

Re: New Brakes
I have the ECS Rotor's front and rear: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_S4--V8 ... EM/ES4123/
With EBC red Stuff pads on the front, standard pads on rear.
Very impressed with them, plus with the red stuff pads the dust is less than what i was getting with OEM rotor's and Pads.
One item to consider though is that if you havent driven a car with Slotted rotor's the noise is a bit louder and you also hear the pads running over the slots.
I was lucky to find someone selling these for a fraction of the price, but even so i think they are well worth the price.
there is a UK supplier but cant remeber who it was - google should assist you

Re: New Brakes
They went straight on with no issues, perfect fit, 3 day delivery from MTEC in ireland and have absolutely no complaints.
Will update this after its been bedded in and I can talk about it a bit more, just tip-toeing around with them at the moment
Re: New Brakes
Funny, your grooves look curved, whereas I'm sure that mine from MTEC have straight groovesleewhiteheadmma wrote: FInally got my discs fitted, went for the drilled and grooved option and also their supplied Mintex pads.

Re: New Brakes
funny, I just looked at your pics and you are right, maybe mine are a new approach to the groove process, seeing as how I bought them after you?
odd, still bedding in, will know more when the miles have gone on, but tomorrow she's in for control arms

Re: New Brakes
Yeah, quite possibly, although mine are only about 2-3 weeks older I think!
Maybe it's something to do with you getting drilled discs, whereas I got dimpled... weird.

Re: New Brakes
How is everyone getting on with the MTEC and mintex combo?
I'll need new discs and pads on both axles soon and they seem a good price.
Is there as much dust as the OEM stuff?

Mine are right, his aren't, simples

Mine are going really well, the EBC's that is, they are so much better after they've bedded in and are far better than standard as far as pure stopping power goes, but aren't much better on fade, I guess you'd need to go big brake conversion for this.
Re: New Brakes
i run mtec drilled/grooved on the front with yellowstuff pads, and a stock oem setup at the rear.. and the rears are way dustier!!
