Re-map is it worth it?

Post by Thacker » Mon Jan 10, 2011 5:25 pm

I know bhp gains are minimal but in peoples experience, does a generic re-map improve your S4? Improved drivability better mpg?

I've only ever re-mapped turbo stuff which is obviously a different story but, I've seen mpg increase as well as improved performance.

Anyone running just a re-map?

Thoughts please.

Cheers Ed

Not really worth doing without atleast gutting out the precats or getting milltek downpipes or similar

I think sorting the handling and ride will pay more dividends than an extra 5% BHP

My S4 had the full Milltek system and an AMD remap. When I was getting Audi to put the lastest throttle software on, AMD removed the map before I went in (and reapplied it after).

My car already had the mods on when I bought it and the difference it made (plus the risks on warranty plus insurance increase etc) I wouldn't bother if I had been paying for it myself. The map didn't make the car feel any faster. It did feel just a tiny bit sharper though....if that makes sense.

I can't comment on the mpg as I didn't have it without the map for more than a couple of days.

my torque curve went up considerably more than the bhp after getting it mapped with the decats and miltek non-res, I would say its worth it purely because I tend to spend most of my time driving in that mid-rev range on the motorway and the difference in response when you want to overtake a vehicle is huge.

mapping isn't always about the numbers, the flexibility of the engine now is much greater than before

Thanks guy's, it would only be a re-map I don't plan on any other mods. I'll let you know results if I get hold of a map.

I can't see the point if you don't do the exhaust. The 4.2 needs to breath so if you don't change that then the map will be of even less benefit.

x2. Don't waste your money. A remap is only beneficial if the exhasut system is also upgraded.
