One exhaust tailpipe dirtier than other...

Post by Jez » Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:01 pm

Evening all,

Have any of you noticed one tailpipe to be 'sootier' than the other?

After a prolonged period without washing the car I happened to notice the nearside tailpipe of my 2004 S4 was a lot dirtier than the offside.

About 2000 miles ago I disconnected the exhaust actuators, primarily because the offside valve was permanently stuck shut and to gain a little more 'note' when at speed. Perhaps just a coincidence, but the cleaner tailpipe is the one which had the valve stuck shut...

Otherwise all appears normal, i.e. similar amounts of exhaust gases noted to be exiting from both pipes on a cold morning etc.

Should I be worrying or just carry on enjoying the car?

Thanks in advance :)

A quick hook up to VAG.COM would reveal any issues, maybe one of the banks is running a little lean? Never seen this myself but then I do keep mine obsessively clean!

Wish I never sold my VAG-com cable now...doh!

I'll prob pop it round Dialynx some time to see if they can scan for codes for me.

Thaks for the advice :)
