Quick question - S4 Tip

At what revs does your S4 Tiptronic V8 change up? Is there any difference between modes, ie Drive, Sport, Manual, Kick-down etc?

Mine shifts at 6,750rpm, despite peak power being at 7,000rpm, and the red line also being at 7,000rpm. I'm not happy about this - I want my full 344PS at 7,000rpm please! Is my car faulty, or are they all like that?

What max revs are you other guys getting with your tips?

Many thanks,

Richard.

Hi Richard,
Mine's about the same I think but I'll check tomorrow for you. I am now looking into a gearbox remap which will cure that. :beerchug:

Sorry, massive difference between modes. In 'D' I find myself driving like an 80 year old ex sheep farmer but in 'S' you are constantly being lured into giving it some.
I'll get back to you tomorrow if I remember.

We are currently the only company in the UK that can remap tiptronics so shift patterns are improved and the tip shifts at higher than standard revs. Audi "cheated" a bit with the tip B6 S4, as peak power is indeed at 7100 and in a tip S4 you never get it...

Thanks Shane. I just sent you a PM but I don't think it's gone through. Be really interested in what you find :)

That's really interesting S2tuner. Kind of confirms what I was thinking, but doesn't explain why Audi did this. Other Audi automatics that I know about not only rev right past peak power, they go to the red line. As they should. I have my suspicions...

I'll call you. Thanks for the info.

Richard.

Reviving an old thread here...

My S4 Tip in D does not want to change into 6th at anything less than about 45 mph. I can override it and knock it into 6th with the paddles anywhere from early 30's and the engine copes fine - plenty of torque in there! Here in Houston 40mph-ish is what the general flow of traffic is, so it would be nice if it settled in 6th before then. Is this a standard feature, or does the gearbox ECU "learn" your driving style and map according? I am not averse to frequent pedal mashing...

Anyone know of any gearbox re-mapping that is now widely available?

Im glad im not the only one who has noticed this also.

Mine always pulls away in second, unless i floor it, which then makes it "jump" down into first, but also, when cruising at 30-40mph, hangs in 4th and wont change up until i go a little faster.

A friend of mine has a B6 and his doesnt seem to do this, and changes up through the gears very quickly.

Anyone have any info on this?

Cheers!
