Without wanting to sound rude, why have you asked this here when there's a post literally 6 posts down covering exactly this?

In summary S4 vs. the straight six M3 rather than the new V8 version the S4 has 4WD drive grip for our inclement British weather, four doors, pssibly five, better build quality and brakes and is an excellent all rounder wheras an M3 is a better 'drivers' car. i.e you can put the tail out and it is marginally quicker in a straight line.

You'd have an M3 for the track and an S4 for every other situation.

I've got a 2003 B6 S4 avant for sale - I'd say it'd be absolutely perfect for you! ;)

Very accurate for Clarkson though Scotty, I just missed out the Sade / Underworld references.

As for costs, AVS1 around £300, AVS 2 around £500, 2 is including plugs and filter changes. Tyres sround every 14-18k miles, IIRC around £600 for all four corners which pretty much wear at an even rate given one rotation front to back in their life. 1 litre of oil every 2-3k miles

Servicing prices are quoted from Audi, an independent will be a dman site cheaper.
