S4 Avant colour choice help required (discrete beast look)

Post by Gekko » Wed May 24, 2006 10:24 am

For various reasons, I've decided to sell my RS4 due to arrive in 4 weeks. It's just too much of a liability especially for my young family. Therefore I've decided to get an S4 Avant (don't say I'm crazy, I need to enjoy something to drive!!). I've seen a very nicely spec'd one in Avus Silver (the chrome mirrors shouldn't stand out as much) but my friend reckons it doesn't do the car any justice compared to darker colours, especially if I want to sell it on in the future.

I've never seen Avus silver in the flesh. There was a bluish-silver RS4 at our local dealership which looked awful.... hope it's not that!

Personally, I think all the grey variants look superb but I just can't find any 55 reg one's. And I'd consider painting the wing mirrors in any case so it wouldn't stand out as much.

Are there any Avus Silver S4 owners here? Any pics to compare?

Daz, superb pics, very helpful indeed. I think that RS4 which appeared dodgy looks suspiciously like the Avus one above. Hmmm..... what would you recommend? I want the beauty of the V8 Avant without scum staring and following it because it stands out, so although black is deadly cool, it's the ideal choice amongst gangster wannabes. I want it to look like a family estate as much as possible but definitely not take away any coolness. As mentioned before, all the greys look fantastic- Dolphin & Atlas especially. Does Avus look a little feminine? (My wife for instance hates black, silver and grey but loves red)

I know Avus Silver is an Audi Exclusive paint spec but is it popular? Does people generally like it?

Wow. Dolphin Grey is fantastic!!

I've made my decision, it's gotta be normal silver or any shade of grey.

Merlot: I need a car asap, I'm borrowing wife's 3.2 DSG at the moment whilst she's stuck at home feeding our 4 month old... she's going to start back at work in a couple of weeks so I can't be waiting 3-4 months for a new car. I can knock off upto £2k on current demo vehicles- 55 reg, < 10k on the clock, listed £38k... one chap agreed at £36k after I asked him over the phone... fully loaded car but unfortunately it's the Avus Silver.

I've given myself 2 weeks to find a nice car otherwise I'll have to take delivery of the RS4 and try and flog it whilst hiding in my garage!
