I had a leak - went into dealer. Thought it was a split pipe or a crack in the reservoir. In the end the dealer replaced a water pump and one of the small rads. Got it back on a friday. Didn't use the car much over the weekend, then monday night came out of work. Coolant alarm on! Yikes. Looks at coolant reservoir and the level is to minimum. Topped up, just thought it was bedding in......tuesday morning. Same problem. No coolant.
Called dealer to book it in with the line of ".....i don't think you fixed it....." Answer was "don't call us, call audi assist" =:-)
Called Audi and they sent nice man out. Who took 5 mins look and a couple of questions. Result: Flat-bed lorry turns up + a hire car =:-)
Audi technican thinks its a problem with an "o" ring on the sump that was clipped when they put the sump on at the factory! Cars done 19,000 miles and is 16 months old
Sure enough. Dealer called. Engine is now out of car, sitting on their floor of the garage....and they have no parts in the UK to fix. Parts onway from germany.
Seems i will be without car for another 10 days
Gotta say, car hasn't overheated and Audi have been good about everything.
I reckon they've spent over £1,500 sorting it out so far. I'm just a but hacked off 'cos i like the car, i miss it and it's inconvenient to keep going to and from the dealer.
The Tdi i have is missing something.....ah 344 bhp

now in week 6. Stealer just called to say, sump off, found problem, fixed it......and whoops, we had to take more parts of engine to complete job.....and we don't have any gaskets in stock to fit. So the engines in bits.
Yep, 2nd time we have had to get parts for S4 from germany. Good news is the dealer has my car on the ramp in bits and can't get it off.....so they can't use it for another week and a half to do other jobs.
Seems dealers and Audi UK do not stock a significant number of parts in their warehouse for B6 4.2 engines.
As they say "they now have a sense of urgency about them"
So the repair bill rises, my irritation is through the roof, and by my calculations the compensation bill Audi UK is getting is now easily into 4 figures......
I was thinking about ordering an RS4.....but.......

seems i'm not the only one to experience this problem.
I wonder if Audi really know how to service high performance cars........they certainly don't keep parts for them.
I have experienced BMW and Porsche first hand in the past and when you do suffer problems they are much quicker to deal with the problem, have the parts in stock and are much more productive than Audi is.
I was promised a call back monday morning. It's now tuesday night and still nothing.

got the car back today.. Boy is it nice to have 344 bhp under your right foot. Managed to give myself a fright tonight in the dark on a country road whilst doing a "shake down test" to make sure nothing falls off. problem is that the left hand exhaust is about 4 inches lower than the right hand side! Doubt it makes much difference in terms of performance. But it looks stupid from the rear.

sorry...should have read "mad about it".....actually i'm not just mad....i'm chuffin mad.
Audi CS is hiding at the moment behind the dealer. Am about to get my lawyer to write to both the dealer and Audi UK and drag 'em in to court.
Anyone know the name of someone senior at Audi UK who will actually listen, understand and has the authority to do something about it?

well after 5 months and no joy with my B6 S4 i've decided to walk away from Audi ownership for a while.
I was a committed Audi owner having bought 4 audi's over the past 8 years.
Shame i was about to buy an RS4, but the problems i have had with the 4.2 v8 block in 19K miles is just not worth it. I'm going to experience another manufacturer for a while. Maybe one with better customer service
Got to say, Audi are not very good when it comes to dealing with major problems.
If you have a minor issue, then i think you might ok, i only wish no-one has a major problem.
