I can never seem to find videos that show exactly what exhaust system to choose from, so enlisting the help of the guys at MRC Tuning in Banbury, I opted to go from the standard, dual cat, resonated system to a Miltek Stainless Steel, de-catted downpipe system with a non-resonated backbox system.

When I bought the car it had a standard setup and a superchips mapped ECU.

*** Speaking to MRC, who are specialist Audi tuners, it appears that all the S & RS cars never seem to make their factory quoted power, this appeared to ring true as the dyno revealed the following:

Superchipped:
--------------------
Engine Power (corrected) - 319.9PS
Engine Power (measured) - 330.5PS
Wheel Power (measured) - 249.5PS
Power Losses (measured) - 390Nm (engine)

Part 2 of the exhaust updates, this gives you an idea of what the standard Audi S4 B6 4.2 V8 setup is like from underneath. Restrictive 200 cell pre-cats on the downpipes, restrictive 400 cell cats and resonated backboxes, plus, there is a strong dip in the pipe diameters around the rear anti-roll bars.

All in all, the gasses have a long way to get out!

Miltek fitted and still on the elevator, spec:

- full de-catted (no pre-cats or cats)
- non-resonated backboxes

sexy huh? I particularly like the place welded to the downpipes that says "Not for road use"

This is the first run, straight from fitment after the ramps went down, the smoke is the oil coating the put on the Stainless Steel to keep it shiny.

Sounds good huh? but wait till you hear it from the back on the dyno!

yup, disgusting isn't it? Doug was very scheptical of people chipping cars and claiming big figures, people saying this, that and the other, 390bhp, etc is a bit of a misnomer until its dyno'ed, that is the real acid test. He did say that most fast audi's at stock don't make their claimed power, and the B7 RS4 is particularly guilty of that. He showed me some graphs too.

Considering Superchips have been around for years you'd think they would get decent results.

I've heard of some companies chipping these cars but actually do little more than tweak the timing

I know, I have heard that as well, dyno'd setup so that they are generous in their readings, which is all fine till you do a dyno day and find out what your car is making in reality.

First run on the dyno with the new zorst, this is pre-map and with the superchips removed. So think standard Audi map, but with the de-catted Miltek system in place. 3 runs in this mode, consistent showing as follows:

Image

Stock ECU, Full Miltek De-catted, Non-Resonated:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Engine Power (corrected) - 336.6PS
Engine Power (measured) - 341.8PS
Wheel Power (measured) - 275.7PS
Power Losses (measured) - 413Nm (engine)

Last dyno run having been mapped by MRC, good gains in power at the wheels, but more importantly, a huge slug of torque across the lower rev range over standard. On the road, the car pulls a lot harder, and I notice a higher top speed in the gears than before, but more importanly,, the sound is superb and really turns heads.

MRC remap, Full Miltek De-catted, Non-Resonated:
---------------------------------------------------------
Engine Power (corrected) - 354.0PS
Engine Power (measured) - 356.8PS
Wheel Power (measured) - 293.5PS
Power Losses (measured) - 418Nm (engine)

Will upload some photos of the exhaust system if people want, if not will leave it, but I highly recommend MRC Tuning and Miltek exhausts

One of the reasons why your money is best spent on a Custom Map, not some random off the shelf generic map...

Good work.
