The RNS-E talk to me...

Post by randomshenans » Wed Feb 20, 2013 9:58 am

Hello all,

A while since I was here. It's winter, so I spend most of my time in the mountains and using the car as it's meant to me used and all it's 4WD power.

That said, I bought an RNS-E for the car and would like to know what I need to get to get the most out of it...

I have an RNS-D at the moment, and I take it I'll need an adapter? Which one would I need? What does it have as standard?! :ban:

Also, what can I hook up to the RNS-E to get DAB or iPhone/Bluetooth connections to it for playing music? Basically, any awesome features that it allows, I will require links of the exact thing I need, as I'm borderline retarded and knowing me will end up with a load more useless cables.

:bigwave:

Looking on http://www.kufatec.co.uk

But not sure what I need, or what will get the connections I want? :/

ok first up you will need a conversion cable for the rnsd to rnse (you can buy these on ebay) however you will want to do a full wire trace on them as they are normally for the concert radio to rnse and you need to move a load of the wires around. kufatec sell a rnsd to rnse cable but its like £60 but does come with removal keys and the gps ariel converter plug.

i bought a generic one and re pinned it and got the extra connectors i needed cost me about £30 rather than the £60 however if you arent happy doing the re pin it might be worth the hassle...

also on the back of the rnsd there is a long grey connector, you will need to tap in to this for 3 wires (i believe the kufatec cable comes with wires with pins to plug in...)

ALSO in the boot you will have to find the TMC box that you will need to unplug the unit, plug 2 ariels together, then you need to bridge 2 wires from the tmc box wiring lol!

where are you located? there is a fair amount of Vag Com coding needed too!

drop me a pm if you need a hand, there is piss all on doing the rnsd to rnse in a b6 s4, and the guides out there are for the rs6 etc and the guides dont swap over to the b6!

if you want to do it the best way you want a rnse 2010+ unit the part number on them is 193, this gives you a higher res screen, allows to run higher capasity memory cards (2 32gb) plus its faster and cooler lol, you cant get them for a b6/b7 though they only came on the a3 and tt etc, so you have to convert the front plate to a older rnse for an a4 front plate, there are people who will do that for you though! i think i paid £380 for a rnse from an a3 and the guy swapped the faceplate for me in that price. the other option is to buy a seat exeo rnse (a 193 version) as that is a direct fit and they seem to go for £350-£400 so its up to you.

also if you go for a 193 unit you can fit the audi ami unit which allows you to plug in an ipod or iphone and have full control on the screen of the rnse.

if you want bluetooth most people say that the audi unit is the only way to go, i got a fiscon unit cheap, i had some issues but since then it works perfectly had no issues at all!

dab is harder, there are ways to do it but none seem to work seemlessly as you would expect they are normally boxes you choose the station on and they then play through the unit the only control you have is volume...

drop me a pm and i will help you with links etc and help.

also the above link to hazzydays i would do research on them... they dont have the best review and are massively expensive.

I sent VW cruise my RNSE for VIM coding on a Tues, got it back 9am Thurs

Very helpful and answered quite a few questions on other stuff, like RVC's and the software issue with kufatec IMA's occasionally losing their coding

192. I considered going the DIY route, but after looking at the procedure for loading up the modified firmware I decided against it. Didn't fancy the GALA cable switch.
