Clutch Life?

Post by goose » Mon Dec 05, 2011 3:13 pm

What's the average clutch life on these motors???

Of late the bite point on mine has come right up, and it's meant I have made some dodgy changes as the revs are still high when ive let clutch out.

I'm the second owner and it's just done 45k, but i'm thinking the first owner spanked the piss out of it for the first 23k of its life :knob:

What are other seeing before this needs to be done? And whats the approx cost? (My old Mk4 R32 cost £1100 and was done @ 70K).

Mine was done at 63k, and thats slightly earler than average for the V8 S4. Ended up purposefully buying the lowest mileage car I could find with the clutch already done after discovering the bill was £2000 including dual mass flywheel which HAS to be done at the same time!! Not necessarily a sign of hard use - could just be town trips, school run etc, these are family cars after all. I'm lazy and pull away in second sometimes which doesn't help.

At 45k I'd get the cylinder and return pipe (pressure pipe in Audi speak) checked out first. They run beside the transmission in the V8 S4 and RS4 and are a weak point. I'm pretty sure the bill for my clutch included a replacement cylinder and piping.

My DMF died around 48k so had it all replaced by MRC. The bill came to a bit over £1800 if i remember correctly. That included a new slave cylinder and fluid etc
I think my lazy driving style of leaving it in higher gears helped it on its way to an early death as its had an easy life from new

Hi,

Just had my clutch replaced while the engine was out for repairs. Parts are about £800 for new clutch and flywheel plus vat and labour. I would estimate about £1500 all in from an Audi dealership

Engine out job I think so that's why it is so expensive. My car is on 98k and has never been changed as far as I can find out.

Hope this helps

Paul

Sounds like you got a super deal with the engine already out. Clutch is quoted at 8-10 hours I believe, easily over 2k at Audi for the lot. Flywheel on my receipt is £660 + vat alone!

mine was done at 60k miles and cost me 2k inc the fly wheel, get it sorted before the clutch takes the fly with it and you will save nearly half
