Different exhaust notes

Post by Greg66 » Sat Nov 21, 2009 12:13 pm

I heart the exhaust note of my cab. I assumed that all B6/7 S4s would have a similar, if not the same note.

As I was riding home last night, I was keeping pace in moderate traffic with a B6 S4 avant. Although there must have been times when he was coasting with his foot off the gas, I was quite surprised at how muted his exhaust note was - pulling away from lights I could hear none of the thrum I get from mine.

So are the exhausts configured differently according to the type of car?

It'll vary a fair bit between cars anyway, cabs have valves in the exhaust aswell. Air filter choice can change the sound, as can engine and actual exhaust tubing temperature
