Aux rad leaking - something for the professionals?

Hi all,

Has anyone attempted to change their auxilary rads themselves? My offside one has started to leak, so thought it might be something I could have a go at. I'm reasonably good with a spanner - done a few engine and gearbox swaps on old golfs etc.

Audi are asking for £300+ vat for labour. Mind you, I'm sure an independant will better that, but is it a right PITA and something I should leave to the professionals?

Any commenst welcome :)

If you know you way around a toolbox then it is not a difficult job. The front bumper needs to be removed. It would be a good idea to replace the snub mounts at the same time. A copy of Elswin, electronic manual, will guide you through the repair.

Has your dealer approached Audi UK for financial assistance on this. It's a common fault and you may find they'll assist with some of the cost.

My local dealer suggested talking to Audi UK to see if there was any chance for a good will gesture. The guy on the end of the phone at Audi said any financial assistance would be based on the age/mileage of the car and loyalty, i.e. has it always been serviced at a main dealer, was the car purchased from a main dealer etc. The car is now 5 years old, I've only had it since December last year and the last service was done at an independent garage. I didn't fancy my chances and wanted the car fixed asap.

Dialynx are about 15mins from me and they looked after my old B5, so I gave Keith a call and his quote to supply and fit both rads was not much more than what Audi quoted me just for labour! Car's now fixed :) Each time I've been at Dialynx I see a rather interesting vehicle - this time was a twin turbo B6 S4 hill climb car...

My front NS appears to be leaking a bit, how much has this cost people to do the whole job including parts? I have a good local independant that should be able to do it no probs. Do I need to get them both done or just the one?

Also when I add coolant, and don't spill any I can see some very slowly dripping from the bottom of the reservoir onto the side of the engine, could it be a cracked reservior that dripping down the engine onto the undertray and onto the floor or is this some kind of overflow?
