Noises and Smells

Post by wayne7 » Fri Oct 03, 2003 8:50 am

I am the proud owner of a S4 4.2, But it has some strange noises and smells .. It would be good to know if these are normal or signs of problems lurking ..

Noises

1) As stated in a previous thread .. gearbox crunch …
2) Road noise ~ very loud, what sounds like tyre noise, very at low speeds
3) Engine whining, droning .. again loud .. even when not moving
4) Engine growl .. very good .. would not want it any quieter

These noises are much louder than I expected and with my last question make me think there may be a problem ??

Smell

If I push on a bit more than normal .. I get a burning smell .. could be rubber, but is more caramel in smell .. The engine has done approx 2000 miles and therefore is still quite new ..

Any one had a similar experience or am I being paranoid

Can't comment on the noise as I don't know the car, but as regards burning smell, after 2000 miles you should not get this anymore: Anything that might burn off on the engine should have gone by now.

Get the dealer to check it.

Hi
I'm also a proud owner of a S4 4.2 Avant and have noticed most of the things stated in your post apart from the burning smell. There does seem to be a little more noise than my previous quattro but there's an awful lot more under the bonnet etc.
I would ask your dealer to check your car just in case..
I have arranged for my dealer to give mine the once over (car that is)as he wouldn't normally see it until 18000 miles have elapsed due to AVS.
Still having MUCH FUN with this new toy...
