A decent choice to make...

Post by JYEMM » Thu May 25, 2006 2:25 pm

Wotcha all.

Yes, I know, another 1st poster asking another question. Thing is I want to ask the general public this question and not "chap" down at the local Audi dealership - he wants me to spend as much money as possible.

Here is the dillemma.

I know I need a family car, and its got to be an estate. The missus doesn't like estates but she likes the kids/dog etc, so I'm telling her we need one. Volvo's yawn, BMW image, Merc no. So its Audi, and guess what "that A4 is a good looking car after all". So, she's happy with the avant, and I suppose she's got to be involved with the colour, but hell I'm paying and I get to chose the engine and model.

The options are 3.2 v8 Sline, S4, and (through gritted teeth if believe what "chap" is spouting), the RS4. All Avant shape.

Does anyone here have an opinion? Obviously the heart says put your grand in now and get an RS, but I'd have to park it on the street occasionally so... I had my eye on a 8.5k mileage, 55 plate S4 with all the trimmings for 37k. Is that a better proposition.

Or, do I plump (plump!) for the 3.2 and be done with it.

The only one of these I have driven is the S4 and of course, it was an enjoyable experience, apart from being flashed by a Gatso half way in. (Fortunately there has been no comeback as yet).

I just need some advice fellas... you own and drive these motors. I want to, just don't have a clear idea where to get stuck in.

Any advice most appreciated.

It hurst me to say it, but I think you should take a 3.0tdi out on a test drive.

Just sounds like the sensible option that is all, as I said, it hurst me to say it.

I appreciate your responses but you are saying that out of the 3 cars i have suggested , a 3.0L DIESEL is actually better! Im not that much under the thumb....

I will however use this long weekend and go and act upon your advice and go check one out. Thanks.
