Bog Standard S4 Avant, Wheels, Tyres and Springs Advice

Post by jamesfunge » Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:13 am

Hi Everyone,

I am brand new to this forum and have just bought a S4 avant 1999. I would really appriciate some help and advice on wheels, Tyres and Springs choice?

I am looking to upgrade the standard setup and was wondering a few things:

Do 19's give too harsh a ride?
Am i better with a set of 18's?
I have seen some spax 40mm springs, are these <beep> or???
Shall I keep on standard springs with 19's?

Thanks guys, pleased to be a part of the forum :-)

18" or 19" will be fine and will also be fine if you decide to lower the car.

You will have to make sure the wheels you buy have the correct offset or at least close to it. ET35 is the standard offset. I think you will struggle to fit a wider tyre than a 235/35/18 or 19.

Not sure on the spax springs, but the chance are you will fit them for a while and upgrade to a coilover or shock & spring kit. The reason i say this is that the suspension will be tired by now and by lowering it the dampers will be working harder so their life expectancy will be reduced.

Shoot me pm if you have more questions.

Eddie
